This African tale follow the rhythms of director Carroll Ballard's earlier films The Black Stallion and Fly Away Home, namely a child is drawn into the mysteries and magic of an animal. Xan (newcomer Alexander Michaletos) is a 12-year-old living in South Africa with his parents (Campbell Scott and Hope Davis, who appeared as a much different couple three years earlier in The Secret Life of Dentists) when they find an abandoned baby cheetah. It contains more truth about the war than I've seen in any other single presentation. On a recent trip to Disneyland, I purchased a DVD with the 50th anniversay artwork on the front, thinking it was history of the park. Boy was I wrong. Do not buy the park DVD, instead wait for this one. The one currently selling at the park is nothing more than the travel video Diseny sends out as a promotional for the park. The DVD advertised as COMING SOON here is more along the lines of what I thought I was getting. Let's hope this DVD actually makes a debut sometime soon. How much longer can they hold out? An inspring movie depicting the possibilities that can happen in modern-day America. Filmed in my hometown of Fullerton, CA this movie captures the hearts of common everyday Americans who just need a good flick to see on a Saturday night. James Earl Jones, as impressive as usual, plays the character of an old retiree living in a convalescent home who inspires the main character "Bruce Jennings" to ride a bicycle from Fullerton, CA to Boston, MA in spite of his injuries from a motorcycle accident. I reccomend this movie for high school athletes, and all other ambitious people who are willing to watch a great movie.
