DVD The Silence of the Lambs - Criterion Collection

Based on Thomas Harris's novel, this terrifying film by Jonathan Demme really only contains a couple of genuinely shocking moments (one involving an autopsy, the other a prison break). The rest of the film is a splatter-free visual and psychological descent into the hell of madness, redeemed astonishingly by an unlikely connection between a monster and a haunted young woman. Anthony Hopkins is extraordinary as the cannibalistic psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, virtually entombed in a subterranean prison for the criminally insane. At the behest of the FBI, agent-in-training Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) approaches Lecter, requesting his insights into the identity and methods of a serial killer named Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). In exchange, Lecter demands the right to penetrate Starling's... Learn More

Siegfried & Roy:Magic Box

This is a wonderful production showcasing the most successful magic team in history. I liked the 3D viewing option. Watch it first in regular view mode, then on the second viewing select the 3D option and put on the glasses (4-pairs per set). It's mind-blowing!! More Info About This DVD

Hannibal (Full Screen Edition)

Yes, he's back, and he's still hungry. Ten years after The Silence of the Lambs, Dr. Hannibal "the Cannibal" Lecter (Anthony Hopkins, reprising his Oscar-winning role) is living the good life in Italy, studying art and sipping espresso. FBI agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore, replacing Jodie Foster), on the other hand, hasn't had it so good--an outsider from the start, she's now a quiet, moody loner who doesn't play bureaucratic games and suffers for it. A botched drug raid results in her demotion--and a request from Lecter's only living victim, Mason Verger (Gary Oldman, uncredited), for a little Q and A. Little does Clarice realize that the hideously deformed Verger--who, upon suggestion from Dr. Lecter, peeled off his own face--is using her as bait to lure Dr. Lecter out of... The Human Stain

Given the formidable challenge of adapting Philip Roth's acclaimed novel to the screen, it's a wonder that The Human Stain retains so much of what makes Roth's novel a masterpiece. As adapted by Nicholas Meyer, Robert Benton's film is inevitably a different animal altogether, and it's wide open to charges of miscasting and thematic diffusion. But at its core, this delicate drama succeeds in exposing the sins that stain all of humanity, forcing men like former welterweight boxer and esteemed professor Coleman Silk (Anthony Hopkins) to forsake family and career to conceal his African American heritage. Light-skinned and passing as a Jewish professor of classics in a tony East Coast college, 71-year-old Silk sinks into scandal when an innocent remark is misinterpreted as a racist... Freejack

I saw this originally at the movies, picked up the laser disk years ago, and now the DVD. It's one of my favorite campy Sci-Fi flicks. Big name actors in second rate rolls, pretty good special effects, a decent plot. Mick Jagger as a merc with plenty of gadgets and bizarre vehicles is a good opponent to "freejacked" race car driver Emilio Estevez. Estevez is grabbed through time at the moment of death (a freak race accident) - in a practice called FreeJacking. The result is supposed to be a flatlined brain with a healthy body. The wealthy few that can afford this service can then download their own consciousness into the new, young, healthy body. Immortality of a sort. Well, Estevez is not braindead (not in the movie anyway), and winds up as the prize in a power struggle between the two... More Info About This DVD
