The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (2D Version Only)

Writer/director/editor/special-effects-supervisor Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Desperado) continues to storm the movie world with The Adventures of SharkBoy and LavaGirl in 3-D. A young boy named Max (Cayden Boyd) finds the real world crashing into his dreams: His parents fight, bullies harrass him at school, and his teacher advises him to get a grip on reality. But Max's faith in his fantasies is so strong that his superheroic creations SharkBoy (Taylor Lautner) and LavaGirl (Taylor Dooley) crash into Max's classroom and take him off to rescue the fantastic planet he dreamed up. Towards the end, SharkBoy and LavaGirl crumbles with clumsy story gaps and bland moral advice, but most of the movie explodes with visual invention. A clockwork villain with electrical... Riding the Bullet (Widescreen Edition)

A vintage Stephen King concept unfolds in Riding the Bullet: a college kid, circa 1970, must hitchhike a very long (and very dark) hundred miles to visit his hospitalized mother. The ghosts waiting for him along the way are either real or of his own mind (which seems to be a dark place itself). As a King short story, this might have been a usefully frightening premise, but it's almost entirely literary; on screen, it boils down to a guy walking down a road at night. Jonathan Jackson is suitably tortured in the lead role (or roles--he frequently appears double on screen, arguing with himself), but the movie is stolen by David Arquette, rocking it up as a '50s greaser who died in a car crash years earlier. Barbara Hershey and Erika Christensen are wasted in support. There's a strain... More Info About This DVD

After Hours

This well-regarded cult film is a tense Kafka-esque tale concerning what happens to a likable computer guy who is in the wrong place at the wrong time in the city that never sleeps--New York. This is a New York infested with bizarre characters vividly brought to life by a once-in-a-lifetime cast. Griffin Dunne's wonderfully controlled comic performance as Paul Hackett is the glue that holds this increasingly surreal film together. Scorsese utilizes a full array of independent and underground film techniques, including special film speed manipulations, angles, and edits, deftly capturing the strange rhythms of an after-hours New York City. Many will find the jokes clever, and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny. Some, however, will find the film an excruciating series of staged... More Info About This DVD

Never Die Alone

(...).

clearly put, this movie divided people. people who got it (new york times, roger ebert, la weekly, village voice, among others) saw it for what it is: an objective portrait of a unredeemable sociopath told in the first person from the sociopath's pov; the more close minded falsely state that the movie glorifies violence and bad behavior and is misogynist, stereotypical, etc.

is it the greatest movie in the world, no. but answer me this: when was the last time you saw a movie released by a major studio (20th Century Fox, who mercilessly dumped the movie after selling it as a straight shoot-em-up and not knowing how to properly market it) that dealt with morally ambiguous characters, didn't spell out its moral and didn't pull any punches when it came to depicting the dark side... 2 Brothers and A Bride

Since I'm from St.Petersburg, Russia myself, this DVD to me meant a lot. I got to see my native city, to which i haven't been for 4 years now, but I thought it was a great movie and i would definetely recommend it. To me, the best part of it were the gorgeous views of my city. However, the acting was fabulous as well and trust me, you will not regret watching it, because it is worth the money. Enjoy!!!
