DVD Ladies in Lavender

A couple of old Dames make the slender story of Ladies in Lavender surprisingly moving. Janet and Ursula (Maggie Smith and Judi Dench), a pair of elderly sisters living on the Cornish coast, discover a young Polish man named Andrea (Daniel Bruhl, Goodbye Lenin!) washed ashore and barely alive. They nurse him back to health and discover that he's a talented violinist--a fact also recognized by a mysterious young woman (Natascha McElhone, The Truman Show), who may woo Andrea away from them. The core of the movie is not its plot but the skillful and delicate play of emotions underlying how the sisters treat Andrea; Ursula, a spinster, finds herself sliding from maternal affection to an embarrassing but irresistible schoolgirl crush. Ladies in Lavender captures... Learn More

Swimming Pool (Unrated Version)

In terms of alluring female nudity, Swimming Pool shows a lot, but it's what remains concealed that gives this erotic thriller a potent, voyeuristic charge. With his Hitchcockian handling of secrets and lies, prolific French director François Ozon reunites with his Under the Sand star, Charlotte Rampling, to tell a seductive tale of murder and complicity, beginning when British mystery novelist Sarah Morton (Rampling) seeks peace and relaxation at her publisher's French villa, only to find his brash, sexually liberated daughter Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) arriving shortly thereafter to disrupt her solitary reverie. What begins as mutual annoyance turns into something more sinister and duplicitous, alternating between Julie's predatory sex with men and Sarah's observant,... More Info About This DVD

Swimming Pool (R-Rated Version)

"Swimming Pool" is nothing more than a soft porn movie with a better than average story line. Alas, some people require an excuse to view titillating sexual themes and Director Francois Ozon is more than willing to oblige. Charlotte Rampling's character, Sarah Morton, is a detective fiction writer who seems sexually frigid and indifferent towards developing viable human relationships. She encounters the boss' daughter, Julie (Ludivine Sagnier), who is a sex addict who indulges in high risk one night stands. Does Sarah envy the young girl? What about Charles Dance? His role as a successful editor is modest and takes up no more than ten minutes of the film.

The French scenery is beautiful and the dialogues doesn't get in the way of the continuous frontal nudity and sexual activity. Is... More Info About This DVD

The Phantom of the Opera (TV Miniseries)

Words can't even describe how much I love this Phantom Of The Opera film! When my mother borrowed it from the library back in 2003, I was a bit skeptical to watch it because before watching this one, the only other one I saw which was in the 90's, was some horror version which I think was Dario Argento's version and it was so boring and the main storyline bored me. I hated it so I wasn't jumping for joy when I saw that my mom had borrowed this 1990 version. I know if I started with the Lon Chaney version, I would have been more excited because even though the Lon Chaney version isn't my favorite, it's a good film and I do like it but at least I've seen it since this 1990 one and that's all that matters. I then just decided and took a chance and watched it and man did I totally fall in... More Info About This DVD
