The late Chris Farley teams up with his Saturday Night Live pal David Spade for this road comedy about a perpetual screwup, Tommy Callahan Jr. (Farley), who tries to save the auto-parts store owned by his late father (Brian Dennehy). The latter's dry-witted number cruncher (Spade) reluctantly joins the loud, awkward, but well-meaning Tommy in the mission, which is threatened behind the scenes by his dad's widow (Bo Derek). The film is sporadically funny, but as with most movies starring TV comics, some vital energy in the stars seems unnaturally suppressed. Still, the film is worth a visit if you want to turn off your brain awhile. --Tom KeoghLearn More

OK, let's just start by saying I LOVE this movie! I know it by heart (boo ya!). Even though I have the original DVD (2001) & 2-set DVD (2001); I wanted to get this 'cause I love the movie and because the trailer said this new DVD had a special 'sneak peek' of Kronk's New Groove. However, this new version of ENG DVD (2005) has the same trailer of Kronk's NG that is in Lilo and Stich 2 and Cinderella - NOT a sneak peek! Still, it's the best movie in the world! If you don't have it--GET IT! Marlon Wayans plays a struggling college student working several jobs to make ends meet and support his mother and family at the same time he's trying to win an entry-level job at a prestigious Wall Street firm. To make a little extra money, he agrees to be a medical test subject and takes a drug that amplifies all of his senses. The comedy supposedly emanates from his drastic reactions to outrageous stimuli and, to be sure, Wayans is a rubber-faced comic. But the writing is never on a par with his flexibility; even the presence of David Spade as Wayans's nemesis--a smug frat boy who looks down his pointy little nose at Wayans--the movie is never more than sporadically funny. --Marshall FineMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Marlon Wayans - David Spade Director(s): Penelope Spheeris DVD Release Date: Released the 06 July 2004 Usually ships within 24 hours

David Spade embodies Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star with the snide, glib, and bored attitude for which he is loved by his fans. Dickie, whose mother abandoned him in his youth when his TV show was canceled, yearns to regain the spotlight. But he can't get a promising role because the director believes that Dickie isn't a real person; so, to find his real self, Dickie hires a family to give him the childhood he never had. Dickie Roberts has some scattered laughs, but the writers have no better grasp of reality than Dickie himself; the "normal family" Dickie hires is as warm and glossy as any TV clan. A busload of real former child stars play exaggerated versions of themselves, but the result is more uncomfortable than satirical. However, if you want to see David Spade... Chris Farley plays the disaster-prone brother of a gubernatorial candidate in Washington State. Though he is well meaning, the havoc he creates on the campaign trail is drawing press attention, so a snotty aide (David Spade) to the politician is dispatched to keep the big lug under control. Spade's character initially insults his charge as often as possible, but over time, the two bond and end up becoming a part of the final election push. Farley and Spade have some very funny moments, but overall the film feels rushed and poorly planned. Constant changes in character and script happen recklessly and randomly so that nothing ever really makes sense; the film keeps changing the rules by which it plays. --Tom KeoghMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Chris Farley - David Spade Director(s): Penelope Spheeris DVD Release Date: Released the 16 July 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

Another of those cut-and-paste comedies from Adam Sandler's production company starring one of Sandler's erstwhile Saturday Night Live colleagues, The Adventures of Joe Dirt finds the magnificently caustic David Spade emasculated by a sentimental script and shapeless, haphazard cutting. Spade plays the title character, a white-trash orphan in search of the parents who abandoned him at the Grand Canyon. The humor is supposed to come from Joe's misadventures, his redneck gullibility, and his encounters with such figures as a serial killer, a wacked-out janitor (Christopher Walken), and a lovable gal (Jamie Pressly) who may, unfortunately, turn out to be his sister. But the squishier requirements of the story, requiring the audience to feel deeply for the pain of Spade's...
