What is so great about American Pie is that "while" there is a heavily raunchy undertone to it, everything exists in a world made up of our own sentimentality. Our longing for days gone by. The nature of lifelong friendships. And the magic of high school romance. The raunchiness of American Pie serves as a catalyst. Instead of basing the whole show around one joke and thus wearing itself so thin that the audience no longer finds it amusing, adding in the sweet undertones of romance, deep-rooted friendships and a pure, sentimental nature make the films more real.
