This dispensable 1984 comedy is a mostly humorless parody of '30s gangster movies, the kind of thing that might work reasonably well in a five-minute sketch on Saturday Night Live but which nearly beats a viewer to death over the course of a feature. Michael Keaton and Joe Piscopo play rival Mafia bosses, but once the novelty of that is introduced, it's already old. There's plenty of sustained effort from the rest of the cast (Marilu Henner, Danny DeVito, Maureen Stapleton), with Griffin Dunne getting special points. Amy Heckerling (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) directs as if this were indeed on television. --Tom KeoghLearn More

Brian De Palma is one of our most stylish and subversive directors of suspense and horror, but as much nervous laughter as his best films inspire he's out of his depth when trying to direct an out-and-out comedy, as this film proved. Danny De Vito and Joe Piscopo play lifelong friends and low men on the mafia totem pole. When they foul up, their boss (Dan Hedaya) offers each his life in exchange for a favor: He must kill his best friend. The idea of two friends not knowing that they each have a contract on the other's life should be good for a few laughs and De Vito works hard at it (Piscopo, on the other hand, is a hopeless case). But De Palma can't find the laughs in this film, despite the frenetic pacing and performances. --Marshall FineMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Danny DeVito - Joe Piscopo Director(s): Brian De Palma DVD Release Date: Released the 30 August 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

I am not sure what to think about this film. It is billed as a comedy but works better as bad horror. Comedy seems to only exist as a label. Sure, Piscopo does do some wisecracking but that hardly makes it a comedy.
The film opens with a jewelry store robbery. Officers Williams and Piscopo respond to the call and are soon involved in a major shootout where dozens of cops are shot (this is comedy?). For some reason the perps just don't stop when being shot. This is the sixth in a series of similar crimes.
The investigation takes the partners to a pharmaceutical company where Piscopo makes a discovery and Williams is killed. But Williams's ex-girlfriend sees what is going on and resurrects him using a strange device. Unfortunately the effect is not...
