Could this be the funniest movie ever made? By any rational measure of comedy, this medieval romp from the Monty Python troupe certainly belongs on the short list of candidates. According to Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide, it's "recommended for fans only," but we say hogwash to that--you could be a complete newcomer to the Python phenomenon and still find this send-up of the Arthurian legend to be wet-your-pants hilarious. It's basically a series of sketches woven together as King Arthur's quest for the Holy Grail, with Graham Chapman as the King, Terry Gilliam as his simpleton sidekick Patsy, and the rest of the Python gang filling out a variety of outrageous roles. The comedy highlights are too numerous to mention, but once you've seen Arthur's outrageously bloody encounter... Learn More

The sketch selection for this hour-long greatest bits collection would certainly provide fodder for the Argument Clinic (a classic sketch, sadly not included here). But the Fish-Slapping Dance, Michael Palin's self-professed favorite piece of Pythonian silliness is included, as is the absurd, curd-free Cheese Shop sketch and his smarmy turn as the oily host of the game show, "Blackmail." Oddly enough, the bulk of this volume is pretty much as devoid of the amiable Palin as that cheese shop was of cheese. Still, the Tobacconist sketch, the Piranha Brothers sketch, Conrad Poohs and his Dancing Teeth, and the Chemist sketch serve as a nifty Python primer for the uninitiated and a filling sampler for fans who have yet to invest in the complete series. To be totally frank, I was expecting the... It's only fitting that Eric Idle, if not the funniest of the Pythons, then certainly, by his own estimation, "the third tallest," launch this new-to-DVD collection of favorite sketches as selected by each of the troupe's surviving members. Of the prolific Python boys, Eric has been anything but Idle. He has been particularly busy of late keeping the Monty Python fires burning, from his Greedy Bastard Tour, (as chronicled in The Greedy Bastard Diary: A Comic Tour of America) to his crowning achievement, Spamalot, the sensational Broadway musical adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As Idle himself notes in the amusing, newly filmed prologue featuring a series of faux Idle on Idle interviews, thanks to DVD, Python's "particular brand of cheap... one of the nice things about having kids is taking them to the movies. and these two films, an american tail and feivel goes west were definite favorites. we had these two movies on vhs and wore them out. my kids are all teenagers now and probably not as interested in watching these kinds of films as they once were, but i really liked these two films a lot so i kind of bought them for myself! if you have seen them then you know how good they are. if not and you are searching for something good for your kids to watch, then i highly recommend. the story is about the experince of the immagrant coming to america, family and friendship, and the determination to persevere. the story and animation is top notch, on par with disney. many of the characters are voiced by popular actors, john cleese... We rented this movie on a whim, wanting a good comedy that doesn't rely on loads of toilet humor to be funny. This one fits the bill. It's not an outstanding movie, but if you're looking for a fun, lighthearted movie, it's perfectly adequate, especially since there's several big name stars in the cast.
The local branch of a bank in a small town has three tellers. First is Stuart. He's a little nervous, and he's always telling his best friend, Max, why Max's hair brained make money fast schemes won't work. Then there's Jason, an ecologically minded desert dweller, who lives with a duck. And last is Sheila, who moved out with her boyfriend. The boyfriend is the bank manager, Rick.
In addition to the three bank tellers and the bank manager, there's Carter and Shmally, Mark, and... "Blessed are the cheesemakers," a wise man once said. Or maybe not. But the point is Monty Python's Life of Brian is a religious satire that does not target specific religions or religious leaders (like, say, Jesus of Nazareth). Instead, it pokes fun at the mindless and fanatical among their followers--it's an attack on religious zealotry and hypocrisy--things that that fellow from Nazareth didn't particularly care for either. Nevertheless, at the time of its release in 1979, those who hadn't seen it considered it to be quite "controversial."
Life of Brian, you see, is about a chap named Brian (Graham Chapman) born December 25 in a hovel not far from a soon-to-be-famous Bethlehem manger. Brian is mistaken for the messiah and, therefore, manipulated, abused, and exploited... From a script cowritten with his fellow Monty Python veteran Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam pulled out all the stops on his prodigious imagination for this comedy-fantasy from 1981. Film critic Pauline Kael was right when she wrote, "This may be one of those rare pictures that suffers from a surfeit of good ideas," because there's not enough plot to keep pace with the sheer inventiveness of Gilliam's filmmaking. That hasn't stopped Time Bandits from becoming a classic, of sorts, attracting a cult following as a semi-reunion of the Python gang (with Palin and John Cleese making splendid appearances) and a rousing adventure of near-epic proportions. It's about a kid named Kevin (Craig Warnock) who joins a band of mischievous dwarves on a jaunt through various eras and...
