In terms of movie directing and production, your not going to get much better than this. This is rated in the elite storyline - concept films. Jackson deliveres a superb perfomance and you can tell he let the script "IN" before he read the lines. This is put on the Shawshank Redemption list because of it's ability to soak you into the story without being the tacky Hollywood production like most American films. All I can say is "Buy this movie". More Info About This DVD Actor(s): Samuel L. Jackson - John Heard Director(s): Kevin Reynolds DVD Release Date: Released the 05 June 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours

Paul Schrader, the director of American Gigolo, brought a similar kind of sexual chic to this explicit horror movie. A remake of the beautiful, haunting 1942 Cat People, this version takes off from the same idea: that a woman (Nastassja Kinski), a member of a race of feline humans, will revert to her animalistic self when she has sex. Arriving to meet her brother (Malcolm McDowell) in New Orleans, she finds herself disturbed by his sexual presence. A zoo curator (John Heard) becomes fascinated by her, but he will discover that her kittenish ways are just the tip of the claw. Schrader dresses the story up in a stylish, glossy production, keyed on Kinski's green-eyed, thick-lipped beauty; it's hard to think of another actress in 1982 who could so immediately suggest a cat... I like this movie. Read something about the story. A crooked developer fails to convince the owner of a wax museum to sell, and so hires an evil arsonist, Gregor. It's a fast and furious fight for their lives when a young boy and his unlikely friend discover the arsonist's plot to burn the historic museum to the ground. There's danger at every turn and fear with every breath! More Info About This DVD Actor(s): Heard - Thomas - John Heard DVD Release Date: Released the 29 February 2000 Special Order

This low budget film is a real bore. Sean Young plays a chef (who doesn't know how to cut vegetables) who is trying to "find herself" by experimenting with sex and relationships. She is torn between her older boss (John Heard) and a young politically active photographer (the very likeable Richard Hillman). This situation is not very compelling and the movie has nothing new to say.
Sean does a pretty good job with the role; however, she is clearly at least ten years too old for such a role and tries to look younger by wearing pigtails and overalls, which is laughable at times. Unfortunately, much of the dialogue and several of the scenes are also unintentionally funny. The only positive aspect of the movie is the use of some great old jazz songs - too bad the soundtrack isn't available....
