DVD Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 1

Forget Steve Reeves and all those Italian strongmen who played stiff, humorless versions of the mythic demigod in 1960s Saturday matinee fodder. Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (a cluster of 1990s television films followed by a syndicated series) re-imagines and re-introduces Hercules--son of Olympian chief Zeus and an earthbound, mortal mother--as a laidback but focused hero of ordinary folks with extraordinary problems. Played with casual grace and ironic wit by Kevin Sorbo, the new Hercules wanders through an equally entertaining, revisionist view of ancient Greece as, well, charming and accessible--not exactly Homeric. There are gods and monsters aplenty, but if this was the cradle of civilization, well....

This eight-disc volume includes five movie-length adventures,... Learn More

Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 6

The entire Hercules series was a slapstick, wacky and wonderfully serious (at times) portrayal of one of the world's greatest legends. This show is just super for all ages and while the fight scenes get a little old, they're still fun to watch because they put a lot of subtle comedy into each and every episode. Hercules offers us insights and layers of relevant issues in any time, plus a whole lot of fun. Good beats evil. Right beats wrong. Any questions? More Info About This DVD

Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 4

I've enjoyed all the seasons of Hercules and this one is no exception. As with the other seasons, the audio and video transfer to DVD is very acceptable. It may not be the best season of Hercules ever, and we don't have anything that compares to the Golden Hind episodes from Season Three. However, this season is still highly entertaining with plenty of creativity and humor from the writers. I even liked seeing Hercules as a pig in Porkules!

I always like seeing Lucy Lawless come back as Xena, and she stars in two episodes, as noted below.

1. Beanstalks and Bad Eggs: Hercules sets out to find the kidnapped Lianna, and finds her caring for the Harpies' three golden eggs.
2. Hero's Heart: The goddess of luck, in an effort to erase one painful incident,... More Info About This DVD

Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 3

The first two seasons are worth seeing. This season is terrible. It has no theme at all, no sense of direction - just a collection of unrelated poor episodes. The worst part is that Hercules second wife, who plays an excellent role, is killed off after only two episodes! What a pity. She was a much better actress than Xena and they killed her. Go figure. Kull the Conqueror

If you're into sword-and-sorcery tales, look no further than this critically underrated big-screen fantasy based on the fiction of Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard. It was a troubled production and the outcome is far different from the more serious and intelligent epic that screenwriter Charles Pogue had originally conceived. Still, this is a giddy, energetic throwback to the Ray Harryhausen movie fantasies of the 1950s and '60s, and it's a perfect vehicle for Kevin Sorbo, the hunky star of TV's Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Sorbo brings an appropriate combination of depth and physical agility to the role of Kull (son of Conan), but he and director John Nicolella know better than to take this stuff too seriously. The movie's humor is nicely integrated into... More Info About This DVD

Andromeda - Season 1 Collection

Based on an idea by Gene Roddenberry, Andromeda confidently wears its debt to Star Trek on its sleeve, recalling the best sci-fi of Roddenberry's heyday. The two-part premiere "Under the Night" and "An Affirming Flame" make for a terrific introduction to the lead character, Captain Dylan Hunt, played by Kevin (ex-Hercules) Sorbo. He's a sympathetically flawed idealist in command of the Andromeda Ascendant, a massive starship of the now-disbanded Systems Commonwealth. The fall of civilization has meant that although she ought to be a relic she remains the zenith of technological advancement.

In the series opener we see Captain Hunt in battle against 10,000 enemy ships, winning a bout of fisticuffs with a close friend turned enemy traitor, wrestling with the... More Info About This DVD
