"Sir, there's a large formation of planes coming in from the north, 140 miles, 3 degrees east." "Yeah? Don't worry about it." This is just one of the many mishaps chronicled in Tora! Tora! Tora! The epic film shows the bombing of Pearl Harbor from both sides in the historic first American-Japanese coproduction: American director Richard Fleischer oversaw the complicated production (the Japanese sequences were directed by Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku, after Akira Kurosawa withdrew from the film), wrestling a sprawling story with dozens of characters into a manageable, fairly easy-to-follow film. The first half maps out the collapse of diplomacy between the nations and the military blunders that left naval and air forces sitting ducks for the impending attack, while the second... Learn More

"After the Fox" succeeds on so many levels. It is equal bits caper film, slapstick, and filmmaking satire. It also allows Peter Sellers' fertile comic mind to run free as a master criminal masquerading as an Italian neo-realist filmmaker. Good supporting turns are given here by Victor Mature as a vain American movie star and Martin Balsam as Mature's exasperated agent. Britt Ekland, Sellers' wife at the time, is good as Sellers' incorrigible sister. Director Vittorio De Sica makes good use of the Italian locales and peoples the film with authentic locals. I was surprised that this film was scripted by Neil Simon because alot of his work is topheavy with verbal gags but this film is equally weighted with the visual and verbal jokes. A wonderful entry in the Peter Sellers canon. Joseph Heller's novel was one of the seminal literary events of the 1960s, but Mike Nichols's film ultimately proved too literal in its attempt to bring Heller's fragmented fiction to the screen. Still, Nichols, who made this on the heels of The Graduate, seemed the ideal candidate to tackle this Buck Henry adaptation. The story deals with bomber pilot Yossarian (Alan Arkin), who has flown enough missions to get out of World War II but can't because the number of missions needed for discharge keeps getting raised. The satire and absurdity of Heller's book get lost in Nichols's effort to give screen time to the members of his all-star cast, which includes Orson Welles, Jon Voight, Bob Newhart, Anthony Perkins, Richard Benjamin, and Martin Sheen, among others. --Marshall FineMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Alan Arkin - Martin Balsam Director(s): Mike Nichols DVD Release Date: Released the 22 May 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours

This typical but well-made action movie, which spawned numerous sequels, means to combine the best elements of the disaster movie with the hard-boiled attributes of traditional action-adventures. When a plane is hijacked to the Middle East by Palestinian terrorists, the Pentagon calls into action the Delta Force, an elite squad of highly trained commandos led by tough guy mainstay Lee Marvin and karate-action-star Chuck Norris. Their mission is simple: to thwart the terrorists and rescue the hostages, and the plot concentrates largely on just that, as the team uses its experience and fighting skills to get the job done. Its sometimes preachy patriotic bent occasionally gets in the way of the action, and Norris is a one-dimensional figure who at times takes himself too seriously, but his...
