Mixing action, humor, sentiment, and even a few righteous moral convictions, The Wild Geese is good, rousing fun. Released theatrically in 1978 (oddly, this 2005 DVD release is referred to as the "30th Anniversary Edition"), director Andrew V. McLaglens film depicts the adventures of a group of British mercenaries hired by a shady multinational corporation to free the benevolent leader of an African nation held captive by a ruthless dictator. Led by the caustic, no-nonsense Col. Allen Faulkner (Richard Burton), these soldiers of fortune are all stout fellows out to earn a big payday and restore a good man to his rightful place of power (the underlying message of universal racial brotherhood is effective, if somewhat simplistic), and they do their job swiftly and... This restoration of Sam Peckinpah's 1965 western Major Dundee is nothing short of magnificent, a noble attempt at restoring a famously wrecked masterpiece. When Peckinpah went over budget and over schedule during the Mexico shoot, unshot scenes were canceled and the footage rudely cut by the studio. The director disowned the results. In 2005, surviving footage was patched back in, and a new musical soundtrack commissioned to replace the score Peckinpah hated. This raises some legitimate questions about interpreting a director's intentions, and about messing with film history, but Major Dundee--The Extended Version is such a rousing, mysterious experience, one feels grateful.
Major Dundee (Charlton Heston) is a vainglorious officer busted to the decidedly inglorious job... More Info About This DVD Actor(s): Charlton Heston - Richard Harris Director(s): Sam Peckinpah DVD Release Date: Released the 20 September 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

I am also an English teacher and a Steinbbeck researcher. The film adaptation makes absolutely no sense. We open the movie with a scene created only for the movie and it appears as if Kino is from white, European descent. As he matures, however, he becomes Hispanic with a horrible accent and Mickey Mouse ears to boot! The film has added in "love" scenes not present in the book and basically made a farce out of Steinbeck's beloved work! If I had to guess, one of the creators and/or directors of one of the Monty Python movies took on this project with outrageous comedy in mind! It was a sure disappointment, even to my students who did not read the book in its entirety! George Roy Hill (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) directed this adaptation of James Michener's novel about the history of the 50th state. Max von Sydow plays a zealous missionary with a Calvinist bent, intent on enlightening the natives even as his wife (Julie Andrews) is romanced by the dashing Richard Harris. The film is both a glossy vision of Hawaii in the early 19th century and a sometimes-brutal drama full of death, a rough childbirth, stormy weather, etc. Hill's blunt editing, meant to emphasize the more terrifying aspects of the natural order of life, makes the film look particularly dated and mannered today. This is best appreciated for its cast, all of whom were making inroads in Hollywood at the time. --Tom KeoghMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Julie Andrews - Max von Sydow - Richard Harris Director(s): George Roy Hill DVD Release Date: Released the 12 April 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

One of the most overlooked films in history, Bo Dereks debut, come on. When they kill the mother orca and she gives birth on deck, why hose it off? Throw that little guy in a pan and fry him, good tasting meal, idiots. Some trivia, the orca actually attacked Richard Harris and told him to lay off the Old Spice Cologne. Richard did, he switched to Elizabeth perfume. Not good with the orca, he dies. Armani cologne dopes. If you look close at the end you can see the mechanical penis on the orca, Richard has it lodged in his rear. Serious, worst movie in history, why am I writing a review? I don't want little children to see this and be scared at Sea World. Originally a computer-generated, animated feature presented in 3-D, the French-American Kaena: The Prophecy still looks eye-poppingly spectacular in a regular, two-dimensional format. The post-apocalyptic tale concerns an adventurous young woman, Kaena (voiced in English by Kirsten Dunst), who is a member of a race--one of many--that inhabit an enormous tree called the Axis, rising 100 miles from Earth's surface. While her people's leader, Opaz (Richard Harris), insists his tribe's sole purpose is collecting sap and honoring the gods who provide sustenance, Kaena is more interested in exploring. Signs that the Axis might be dying sends Kaena on a mission to find out why; along the way she encounters a slavemaster race, the Selenites, and their vicious queen (Anjelica Huston)....
