DVD Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Drake and Josh, Vol. 1 - Suddenly Brothers

Nickelodeon's fresh teen comedy (a successful spin off of The Amanda Show) displays the uncanny comedic talents of Drake Bell and Josh Peck as 15-year-old stepbrothers who are thrown together as roommates when Drake's mother marries Josh's father. Polar opposites in personality, the boys must navigate their way through a myriad of adjustments in their newly blended family. In the first of this two-episode program (from the TV series), Drake discovers that Josh is an undercover advice columnist for the school newspaper using the pseudonym "Miss Nancy." Tensions mount when girl-crazy Drake decides to exploit Josh's "insider information" to attract the school's hottest pick, Tiffany. The second segment, "Dune Buggy" takes a humorous yet insightful look at the "art" of lying--is it a... More Info About This DVD

Tales from the NeverEnding Story - The Gift

This is the second DVD in the "Tales" series. In this fantastic volume Atreyu and Fly Girl journey to the Southern Oracle to find a cure for the Childlike Empress. He meets two odd characters that offer to "help" him get through the ominous riddle gate. Meanwhile, Xyide travels to the Ivory Tower to do away with her sister(the empress). The dying empress uses the last bit of her power to shield off Xyide's attacks and puts a protective shield around herself so that Xyide cannot harm her. Back in our world, Bastian sees his mothers ghost at night. His father, thinking that there are to many memories in their old home, decides to sell the house(with a little persuasion from a not-so-nice real estate agent, who is actualy a spy from Xyide) and move on with their lives. This volume contains... More Info About This DVD

Tales from the NeverEnding Story - The Beginning

Saved by the Bell, Mary Kate and Ashley, etc. Those were the shows that met us when we got home. This series has the same family feel (except for the one or two surprising swear words towards the end, of the 4-disk set). The only issue I have is that this particular disk does not have the entire series, and there aren't any more you can buy. You have to purchase the 4-disk set which recently came out (UPC 76145082003), which is worth getting because it has all the episodes from this disk, plus a lot more (and it STILL doesn't feel complete!). Sebastion is not my fav character, but everyone else is not shabby (Atreiu is pretty cool actually). It is the Neverending story expanded and worth watching. More Info About This DVD

The Modern Adventures of Tom Sawyer

THE MODERN ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER begins on an interesting premise, placing Mark Twain's Adventures of Tom Sawyer in modern suburban America. However, the film doesn't work really well. The budget of the picture was obviously low and much of the writing is rather corny. Tom Sawyer, Aunt Polly, and Becky Thatcher are the only major characters that remain true to Twain's original story. Huck Finn has been changed to a kid named Chuck who instead of being a "negative" influence upon Tom, is the one that Tom influences negatively. There are other instances of changing the story to make it politically correct and outside of the famous fence painting episode and a showdown between Tom and Joe at the end, there really isn't much left of Twain's original tale. Erik Estrada of "Chips" fame plays... More Info About This DVD
