Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Volume 43 in the series of TWILIGHT ZONE DVDs presents two classic episodes and two relative rarities from the series. The first classic is the pilot episode, "Where Is Everybody?" This thirty-minute near-monodrama stars Earl Holliman as a man who inexplicably finds himself in a deserted town. Who the man is and how he came to be in the town appropriately remains a mystery until the episode's final scene. "The Eye of the Beholder," a classic from the ZONE's second season, was quite controversial when first shown. It is the story of a woman, Janet Tyler, who was born with a "deformed" face and is undergoing plastic surgery to make her face look "normal." The episode takes place in a dimly lit hospital, and Janet's face, as well as the faces of the doctors and nurses attending her, is... As others have already commented on the technical features of the set and the individual episodes, I just wanted to make a few comments on the series as a whole and perhaps how it was influenced by the cultural milieu of the time.
It was the drab 50s and then turbulent 60s, and the Cold War, with its threat of possible nuclear annihilation, was in full swing. Perhaps that explains the pervasive film noir ambience and dark mood that often hangs like a pall over many of the episodes. Although the characters are drawn from all levels of society and from all walks of life--from two-bit criminals to the rich and famous--many are just various and sundry low-lifes, riff-raff, criminals, and grifters. And then there are the simply down and out--the bored or emotionally overwrought,... As others have already commented on the features and technical aspects of this set (which were generally well regarded), I thought I would make a few comments more on the episodes themselves.
This series aired for a few years in the early 60s (although it started in 1959) and immediately passed into pop culture and TV legend. Many famous actors and actresses, or soon to be famous, appeared in the show. I especially remembered the episode with Robert Redford, who was probably in his mid to late 20s but who looked 18, playing Mr. Death who had come to get an old woman.
In addition to Serling, the main writers for the show were Charles Beaumont and Richard Matheson, who had already established reputations as fantasy writers, and who wrote many of the episodes. There... More Info About This DVD Director(s): Ida Lupino - Alvin Ganzer - Richard Donner - Allen Reisner - John Rich DVD Release Date: Released the 03 April 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours

I began collecting volumes of the Twilight Zone after watching the Twilight Zone Marathon over the New Year's holiday. Though the volumes (which are much more affordable) only consist of individual episodes and not the chronological order episodes that are found on collective editions (which are more costly), have some of the best episodes on just one volume. To me, Volume 11 was the best especially the episode with the Talky Tina Doll, where she kills the mean, unloving stepfather simply because he didn't care for the doll or his stepdaughter.
Another great episode on this volume is The After Hours. This episode tells the tale of a shopper who buys a gold thimble on an empty floor of a department store. Unbeknownst to her, this is the floor where they keep the store... I hate in the ep Stopover In A Quiet Town when they are panning to Rod Serling you can see the studio background showing the house Bob and Millie Frazier are in is really a studio. They pan in a similar way in the ep about the old lady getting the strange phonecalls, too. Other than the eps are usually great (unless they're sappy like Kick The Can).About Adam West (Batman). Yes he was never on the original TZ and what a pity! He was perfect for the TZ. In one ep Caesar and Me, Stafford Repp (later Chief O'Hara on Batman with Adam West) was in it. There is a character in Caesar and Me named Jonathon WEST! Also the name in the title Caesar, a Dummy (like Caesar Romero who played the Joker on Batman!) and this Caesar tells jokes! Was the writer of Caesar and Me psychic? I believe so! If...
