DVD Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Columbo - The Complete Fourth Season

What can you say about Columbo, the unassuming and bungling, yet brilliant sleuth who always gets his man or woman. Part of the brilliance of this series is that the murder occurs at the beginning of the episode. Columbo is then called to the scene of the crime and in his annoying and ultimately endearing manner slowly unravels the mystery. It becomes obvious early on that Columbo has the uncanny instincts, intelligence and experience to handle the job and almost always has a suspect in mind. The murders are ingenious and sometimes umpremeditated, yet the murderers all ultimately incrimminate themselves by their own behavior and the many clues they drop along the way. When Columbo finally nabs his mouse after a long and determined pursuit, he then reveals to them their one fatal... More Info About This DVD

Woman Hunter

An enjoyable TV movie from 1972 which gives Barbara Eden a chance to show her curves as well as her acting talent. She is well supported by Robert Vaughn and Stuart Whitman and the locations are also easy on the eye. The DVD print is excellent and the cover art really captures the essence of the film.
Although only a mere 70 minutes in length, it is still an entertaining story. More Info About This DVD

Sssssss

I can't believe *this* movie is available on dvd, when countless others I have dreamed of, longed for, hoped for, etc...sit in VHS bins just aching for a dvd release. Such is life I suppose. Truly no accounting for the decisions of studio execs, nor taste. At any rate, I remember watching this movie decades ago, on KTVU Channel 2 in SF, California. I always thought it was so funny when, between commercials, the announcer would say, "We now return to 'Sssssss.'" The movie itself, kinda creepy in a really bad movie sense. But even then, the effects and "horror" of it were just awful. It was just an all-around bad movie, badly done, and even didn't have the camp factor going for it. You want camp? Go for John Waters. Otherwise, avoid this.

I suppose it's good for a... More Info About This DVD

Attack of the Giant Leeches

It's hard to say whether this is a low-rent Southern Gothic melodrama or a monster movie; it seems that director Bernard Kowalski couldn't make up his mind which genre to pursue. A local poacher turns up in the swamp half-dead with sucker marks all over his body. Soon after, a fat slob bartender (Corman regular Bruno VeSota) finds his hottie of a wife making out with her boyfriend and forces them into the swamp at gunpoint. From there, the two become a leech snack. When more people disappear in the bayou, the local game warden and resident scientist (isn't there always one, regardless of how remote the place is?) take it seriously and discover the monstrous bloodsuckers. Despite the grade-Z trappings of this movie, threadbare plot, and ludicrous monsters, there are still some... More Info About This DVD

Roger Corman Retrospective Vol 01

European corman-o-buffs beware. This dangerously attractive and bargainpriced set of drive-in jams is recorded in the EP mode (Extended Play), which is used mainly on US VCRs. Even if you have a NTSC compatible machine (as I do), this tape will not be reproduced correctly due to a higher processing speed - which is somewhere between SP and LP mode. My advice is simple: get a DVD version.

And comments regarding the three goodies? A must have for any fan of tasty low-budget flicks. Also highly recommended as a background videowall if you are throwing a family reunion party. More Info About This DVD
