Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

A lot of people already know this story from the book but this mini series sheds a new light on it. The 3 part mini series is to good to be true so you know a lot of people have been asking that it be turned into a season series because of it's originality. The fact that it's not the same old TV show with the same conflicts and story lines definitely makes it stand out. It also has a stand up cast, The actor I respect most is Sean Nelson also known as Charlie in the show who would be most recognized from 1994's Fresh or 2005's Their eyes were watching god. Nelson put in the fire and anger the show needed to keep it moving. If you don't know the story Miracle's Boys are about 3 brothers living in present day New York. The problem is that their mother who was the heart and back bone of the... More Info About This DVD Director(s): Spike Lee - Bill Duke - LeVar Burton - Ernest R. After having seen the play live as presented by the West Side Players, I was under the impression that I wasn't going to see a production that could match that. I was very wrong. I have always been impressed with Danny Glover's work; everything from And the Children Shall Lead to his latest performance in Beloved (he and Oprah were completely shafted by white corporate Hollywood by not receiving Oscar nominations). His performance as Walter Lee Younger, however, is by far his best work up to this point. When Hansberry's play first appeared on Broadway, it was revolutionary, and was acclaimed as being more than a play; her words were more than just dialogue. It is a work steeped with human drama, and Glover brings this drama through to the audience in a most heart-wrenching manner. A... The "Deacons for Defense" video alerts us to one chapter in the inexcusably ignored history of the armed civil rights movement. On the principled rationale and history of the *armed* civil rights movement (forever in the politically correct shadow of the history of non-violent resistance and protest), both enthusiasts and critics of "Deacons for Defense" should read the following:
Karl R. Popper, "Utopia and Violence" (in Popper's classic Conjectures and Refutations, Harper & Row, 1965): "[W]e must not allow the distinction between attack and defense to become blurred. We must insist upon this distinction, and support and develop social institutions ... whose function it is to discriminate between aggression and resistance to aggression [aka self-defense, the most historic, universal... I was in college when this came out and Robin's character taught me everything I needed about being sultry.
She is a bad ass bitch in the movie, in the vein of a Pam Grier character. The setting is Harlem, where only the feisty, the sly, and those with panache survive. Robin's portrayal of Immabel as slow-slurring, smooth as butter, carefree but calculating seductress is deftly-done.
She carries the movie well and it's hard to take your eyes off her. This is crucial, because if Immabel wasn't captivating the movie would fall flat. All the drama hinges on the girl and the gold.
There is some annoying, raunchy comedy from some satellite undertakers in the movie. But that's to entertain the droll.
Three Jewish widows meet on a regular basis at the cemetery where each has buried her husband. But talk about faux Jewry: The widows are played by Olympia Dukakis, Ellen Burstyn, and Diane Ladd. One is uptight, one is fun loving, and one is confused--and each is coping with the notion of starting a life with a new man. But only Burstyn is actually out there trying to begin anew, with the formulaically lovable Danny Aiello. Her romance drives a wedge between the friendship, but you won't care too much because the comedy (based on a Broadway play by Ivan Menchell) is so wan that it's almost nonexistent. And there's nothing these three veterans (or director Bill Duke) can do about it. --Marshall FineMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Ellen Burstyn - Olympia Dukakis - Diane Ladd Director(s): Bill Duke DVD Release Date: Released the 05 August 2003 Usually ships in 24 hours

A flawed but admirably ambitious gangster movie, Hoodlum aspires to be a kind of Harlem-based equivalent to The Godfather, and while it falls short of that lofty goal it's still got plenty of qualities to make it well worth seeing. It's the first film to tell the story of Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson (charismatically played by Laurence Fishburne), an ex-convict who dominated the Harlem numbers racket during the 1930s and '40s. As he rises to power he gains equally powerful enemies, including hotheaded Bronx gangster Dutch Schultz (Tim Roth) and the suave mobster Lucky Luciano (Andy Garcia). Determined to defend his Harlem turf against these invaders, Bumpy eclipses the "policy queen" Stephanie St. Clair (Cicely Tyson) and becomes a self-styled Robin Hood figure, attracting the...
