Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

I have spent thousands of dollars for the priviledge of watching "The Sopranos" on HBO and on DVD. It is without question my favorite television show. I have bought every Sopranos boxed set, and went online to buy the sixth season on DVD for my holiday viewing pleasure. I'm not going to get into a critique of this season as compared to the previous five... but I am pissed off that they are forcing me to take another "bite of the apple" by splitting this season into two parts a la every other series that's been milked to death by soulless networks. I thought the Sopranos franchise was above all that BS. Not to mention, I loved that all the boxes were the same exact format -- until now. Well, guess what? Not only am I not buying the season six DVD sets... now that Deadwood's been cancelled,... With volatile issues of Baltimore city political reform as its narrative focus, the third season of The Wire superbly maintains the series' astonishingly consistent status as the greatest "novel for television" ever created. While the Baltimore police department's wire-tapping investigations continue to monitor the intricate and now legitimately fronted drug ring of Russell "Stringer" Bell (Idris Elba, smooth as ever), detective Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West) continues his loutish ways, navigating through a series of shallow sexual conquests while doing some of the best cop-work of his career. Stringer's ex-convict partner Avon Barksdale (Wood Harris) is back in the picture and bent on eliminating a drug-dealing competitor named Marlo (Jamie Hector), and Baltimore P.D. Major Howard... The premise behind this revisionist Western from executive producer Jonas McCord (Earth: Final Conflict, Ask the Dust) was novel enough: veteran character actor Anthony Zerbe ran a Pony Express station, and counted among his diverse group of riders such future legends of the Old West as Wild Bill Hickok (Josh Brolin) and Buffalo Bill Cody (Stephen Baldwin; Christopher Pettiet would join them in the series' third and final season as a youthful Jesse James). Ostensibly, the Riders' job was to deliver the U.S. mail, but somehow, adventure kept intervening, and the Riders rallied valiantly to defend escaped slaves ("Black Ulysses"), give testimony in the case of a stagecoach massacre ("Speak No Evil"), and even deal with their own growing fame ("Ten-Cent Hero," which addresses... Starring Adrien Grenier, Kevin Connally, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara, and Jeremy Piven, the series follows the lives of celebrity actor Vince Chase and his posse of friends from the old neighborhood as they maneuver and strut through the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Beautiful models, bright clubs, and celebrity cameos (Jessica Alba! Gary Busey! Jimmy Kimmel!) fill every episode. The boys are styling and living large, the women are drop dead beautiful and available, and the night life and premieres fill their days and nights. This show packs a visual orgy of celebrity glitz and the good life. The writing is clever and the wit varies between sarcastic and sophmoric, but overall the show entertains everyone, because deep down we all want a little taste of the Hollywood life.
