Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

I first saw Star Wars on HBO when I was 5 years old. I then bought it on VHS, and rented the DVD's when they came out. The first couple of times I saw the movie, I was amazed and astounded each time. But after watching the updated version at the theaters and now on DVD, the movie has lost some of its magic and shine. Here is why.
First, of all the re-releases, Lucas tweaked A New Hope the most. Some scenes were added that should have been left out. The scene with Jabba in the hangar on Tatooine is a good case in point. Jappa looks way too small, and not quite as brown as he looks in Return of the Jedi. Also, one of the great things about the original trilogy is the fact that each character has minimal introduction before they appear on screen. We expected Yoda to be... If The Phantom Menace was the setup, then Attack of the Clones is the plot-progressing payoff, and devoted Star Wars fans are sure to be enthralled. Ten years after Episode I, Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), now a senator, resists the creation of a Republic Army to combat an evil separatist movement. The brooding Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is resentful of his stern Jedi mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), tormented by personal loss, and showing his emerging "dark side" while protecting his new love, Amidala, from would-be assassins. Youthful romance and solemn portent foreshadow the events of the original Star Wars as Count Dooku (a.k.a. Darth Tyranus, played by Christopher Lee) forges an alliance with the Dark Lord of the Sith,... "I have a bad feeling about this," says the young Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) in Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace as he steps off a spaceship and into the most anticipated cinematic event... well, ever. He might as well be speaking for the legions of fans of the original episodes in the Star Wars saga who can't help but secretly ask themselves: Sure, this is Star Wars, but is it my Star Wars? The original elevated moviegoers' expectations so high that it would have been impossible for any subsequent film to meet them. And as with all the Star Wars movies, The Phantom Menace features inexplicable plot twists, a fistful of loose threads, and some cheek-chewing dialogue. Han Solo's swagger is sorely missed, as is the... Human individual THX 1138 (Robert Duvall) comes to self-realization and attempts to escape from a post-apocalyptic underground world. Clever and visionary, George Lucas made "THX1138" on an austere budget and produced a science fiction movie that remains almost timeless. The enclosed and automated environment, with robotic police force and lifeless people make an unusual atmosphere. Lucas thrusts you into the setting with no obligatory dialog and you are left to your senses in piecing together what you see. Eventually the story reveals that humans are workers and the population is devoid of emotion, controlled by an unknown regime concealed by machines and computers. The lack of explanation is probably what makes this feature a unique experience. This is not an action piece like "Star...
