Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

The first television season of Ellen was actually called These Friends of Mine, and while the series sought to define itself through various tones and shades of comedy, the best episodes captured a middle ground between Seinfeld and Friends. Ellen DeGeneres is both a brilliant centerpiece and generous ensemble player, constantly finding fresh ways to mine laughs from her ever-rambling, guilt-ridden, and perpetually dissatisfied heroine. As Ellen Morgan, bookstore employee and platonic roommate of semi-loser Adam (Arye Gross), DeGeneres finds plenty of opportunity to explore humiliation. In the pilot episode, Ellen's unhappiness with her bad photo on a driver's license prompts an obsessive (and unsuccessful) quest to beautify her ID. "The Promotion" finds Ellen... Personable comedian Jeff Foxworthy seemed a likely candidate in the 1990s to get his own situation comedy on television; thus was born The Jeff Foxworthy Show in '95, lasting two years. The Complete First Season includes the series' initial 18 episodes, which have much to recommend them despite obvious signs the program never quite figured out what is was about. Year 1 can easily be divided between pre-Jay Mohr episodes and everything after actor-comedian Mohr (Saturday Night Live) joined the cast as Wayne, a younger, wilder redneck brother of Jeff. (Foxworthy's character, like Jerry Seinfeld on Seinfeld, is named after the star.) The pre-Mohr episodes are simple domestic comedies focusing on Foxworthy's nuclear family: wife Karen (Anita Barone), a wry and... In Black Knight, Martin Lawrence plays an amusement park employee who is magically transported back to medieval times and helps return a queen to her rightful throne (while learning some valuable lessons along the way). Despite the script's lack of logic and originality, Lawrence is an engaging performer, with a loose-limbed amiability that makes him most enjoyable company, even if he's not necessarily a better actor than most comedians. If Lawrence ever does a movie with a decent script, he might really have something; as it is we'll have to settle right now for the cheesy yet funny sight of Lawrence teaching a medieval band to play some Sly and Family Stone. --Bret FetzerMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Martin Lawrence - Marsha Thomason Director(s): Gil Junger DVD Release Date: Released the 16 April 2002 This item is currently not available.
