Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Susan George (Straw Dogs) is ex-groupie Mary and Peter Fonda (Easy Rider) is wannabe-NASCAR driver Larry. They're thieves on the run from sheriff Vic Morrow (The Blackboard Jungle), who carries neither gun nor badge. According to director John Hough (The Legend of Hell House), his white trash cult classic was "an action picture with a lot of stunts." That about sums it up. The Tarantino favorite is slim on character development, but overstuffed with automobile-oriented action (most revolving around a 1969 Dodge Charger). Notable stunts include a game of chicken with a couple of 18-wheelers, a low-flying helicopter chase, and a death-defying leap over a moving bridge (Speed would up the ante with a bus). Adapted from the novel The Chase, Dirty... More Info About This DVD Actor(s): Peter Fonda - Susan George Director(s): John Hough DVD Release Date: Released the 28 June 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

1987's "American Gothic" was a mystery to me when I was a kid; I didn't know WHAT the title was all about. I only knew the faces from the video cover, and I thought they looked scary. However, I never actually saw this relatively-obscure flick until about three hours ago.
Those faces, I would learn, belonged to Yvonne (TV's "The Munsters") De Carlo and Rod Steiger, who's been in a million things. They play 'Ma' and 'Pa', two Puritanical maniacs who reside on a forested, and mostly deserted, island. This island suggests a backwoods Southern locale, but 'American Gothic' is a painting by artist Grant Wood, who just so happens to be from my home state of Iowa, thanks very much. And indeed, the video cover, as well as Ma and Pa themselves,... More Info About This DVD Director(s): John Hough DVD Release Date: Released the 28 September 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

Ghost story meets paranormal mystery in Disney's PG family spookfest, a rare kid-friendly scary movie that still manages to frighten. American girls Lynn-Holly Johnson (Ice Castles) and little sister Kyle Richards move into a secluded British manor cradled in a mist-shrouded forest, home to a ghostly guardian angel and a decades-old mystery that still haunts the place. Director John Hough (whose Legend of Hell House is a classic of supernatural suspense) delivers all the right shiver-inducing ingredients: flashes of light, whispers in the wind, eerie visions of a blindfolded little girl lost (the long-lost daughter of withered widow Bette Davis) reaching out from mirrors, as if trapped behind them. Though tame by today's bloody standards and a flop on its original release in... Biggles is based on a sci fi book or comic book series -- I can't recall which. A young American frozen food CEO, Ferguson, is suddenly transported back in time to the French battleground of WWI where he meets British flying ace Biggles, whose plane has been downed. Just as suddenly, he's back in his NY apartment, but a lot worse for the wear. An old British officer (Peter Cushing) visits and explains that this could happen to him again and whenever it does, Ferguson must help Biggles complete his mission to destroy a German doomsday high frequency sound device (it turns solid objects, including people, into dust) or it could alter the outcome of WWI and the future/present day (the film was made in the late 1980s). With a lot of humor and an appealing young cast, Ferguson, at the worst... More Info About This DVD Director(s): John Hough DVD Release Date: Released the 22 June 2004 Usually ships within 24 hours

"Howling IV: The original nightmare" is one of those sequels to a revered horror film that is almost universally trashed by people who see it and even people who don't, which is something that can be understood to an extent. The film can't compare to the polished nature of the original film, nor can it compete with that film's revolutionary and downright groundbreaking make-up effects. Add to that that "Howling IV" has been butchered by its producer in post-production to create more of a contemporary and commercial horror film on its original release. But that's not the whole story. The truth is that for all the film's short comings there are some merits to it and they are not as few as many people think. The film is much truer to the atmospheric and suspensful storyline of the original... The effects are low-tech and no longer special, but Escape to Witch Mountain still has plenty of Disney live-action charm. It's rather quaint by later standards, coming just two years before Star Wars upped the ante on movie magic, but the story's got timeless appeal as a precursor to Harry Potter's more lavish brand of kid-wizardry. Here you've got Tony (Ike Eisenmann) and sister Tia (Kim Richards), orphans unaware of their mysterious past, who are taken in by a nefarious liar (Ray Milland) seeking to exploit their supernatural powers. Populated by '70s stalwarts like Donald Pleasance and Eddie Albert (the later playing the kids' grown-up accomplice, unwittingly rescuing them from Milland), this lightweight Disney fare is perfect for kids under 10, with such enticements as...
