"The Facts of Life" Season 3 is another great season that I think any 80s fan or simply any person looking for great writing with a mix of comedy and drama and actual big issues of the day should own. You can read the other reviews to see the variety in the episodes and writing. This season you see the girls travel outside the school a bit more and their friendship change as their probation period (an ongoing Season 2 plot) comes to an end.
What I liked about this season was just how the show continued to take on a variety of topics young people faced. Before Degrassi Junior High and Seventh Heaven, there was The Facts of Life--a feel-good sitcom where a lesson was learned at the end of each episode. Set in an all-girl boarding school, the series spanned nine seasons, countless hairdos, and an array of cast members and guest stars--some of whom (George Clooney, Helen Hunt, Molly Ringwald) would become very, very famous in the future. But in the 29 episodes that cover the first two seasons, the series introduces TV viewers to characters that represent girls everyone knows--Blair, the rich, spoiled girl; Natalie, the chubby smart aleck; Jo, the rebellious tomboy; and Tootie, the rollerskating tattletale.
I loved watching these shows again! I had vague memories of the show, I remember really liking it, but I didn't get to see it often because my parents didn't like me watching it. lol. Anyway, it's still just as funny as it was back then. If you liked the show in the '70's, you're bound to still like it now!
I was one of the 20 million viewers watching the original production on tv -- and fell in love with the show. The idea of updating the play to turn of the century America was a lot of fun - plus the addition of period music and beautiful costumes.
Thought the leading players - Beatrice Widdowes and Sam Waterston were excellent in their parts -- and Barnard Hughes as Dogberry the Constable was delightful.
The only reason I watched this production in the first place was the idea that a Shakespearean play had been updated to "modern" times...I usually avoided the Bard's plays - not my cup of tea..but this production was a joy from beginning to end.
