Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Many, many fans (myself included, of course) have been awaiting the day that Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis would get their due in an official movie DVD collection...that day has finally arrived!
All the early films are here (with only "At War With The Army" curiously missing from the line-up). It's interesting to see Dean & Jerry's movie debut in "My Friend Irma"---Dean makes an impressive showing as smooth as his singing, while Jerry looks as if he's barely graduating from high school! The film was a big hit, which was naturally followed up with a sequel, "My Friend Irma Goes West". This time around, the boys' characters were integrated firmly in the plot, gravitating toward equal billing with the cast. From that moment on, there was no stopping them.

Spencer Tracy won an Oscar for his portrayal of Father Flanagan, who opens Boys Town and dedicates himself to helping juvenile delinquents go straight. Mickey Rooney plays one of the tougher kids, figuring out early on that Flanagan is nobody's fool. Warmhearted and inspiring, the film's inevitable sentimentality is nicely cut by Tracy's performance and a smart script by Eleanore Griffin and Dore Schary (who also won Oscars). A good film for all ages, directed by Norman Taurog (Adventures of Tom Sawyer). --Tom KeoghMore Info About This DVD Actor(s): Spencer Tracy - Mickey Rooney Director(s): Norman Taurog DVD Release Date: Released the 08 November 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

When Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis first played the nightclubs, they became the hottest act, bar none. When they graduated to films, they took the world by storm. They were arguably the last of the great comedy teams (following Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, etc.). But that partnership had its moments of tension & personality clashes that ultimately brought an end to their teamwork. "The Stooge" certainly mirrors that real-life partnership/friendship in its storyline.
Dean plays Bill Miller, a struggling vaudeville entertainer hungry for good material & genuine success. In desperation, he agrees to hire a "stooge"--a guy "planted" in the audience as comedy relief--in the form of goofy but well-meaning Ted Rogers (Lewis). Chemistry is established & soon after, Miller's act rockets... Two indisputable Elvis classics bolster this six-pack of Kingly films, with special emphasis on Elvis as race-car driver (three pictures feature this fave filmic occupation). Everybody loves Jailhouse Rock, the third movie in the Presley filmography. It's a kicky tale about a jailbird who learns to be a rock & roll singer in prison (a plot not at all crazy by later Elvis standards). The film catches Elvis in the freshness of being the New Thing, and his rave-up to the title tune is an exultant announcement that rock and roll just bashed down the front door of popular culture.
It Happened at the World's Fair jumps ahead five years, the Elvis formula set. Location shooting at the futuristic Seattle World's Fair of 1962 lends a quirky backdrop, and check out the young Kurt... SPINOUT is another hard movie to sit through, thanks to the weak dialogue and even weaker storyline.
Elvis plays a singing race car driver (for the second time), who is being chased by three women. These include a spoiled brat (Shelley Fabares), an erotic author (Diane McBain), and his own drummer (Deborah Walley).
The music is actually listenable in this picture. Highlights include "Stop, Look, and Listen" and "I'll Be Back".
Elvis appears to be sleepwalking through this one. His appearance is also disturbing: slightly overweight and his hair looks like a big black ball on his head.
The novelty backdrop of the 1962 Seattle World's Fair lends wonderful space-age scenery to this Elvis vehicle. The King co-stars with a pre-2001 Gary Lockwood as freelance pilots stranded in Seattle, where Elvis spends more time babysitting a little kid than panting after ostensible love interest Joan O'Brien. There's more plot than usual for a Presley picture, which in this case is not a good thing, and the songs are pallid, save "One Broken Heart for Sale." The real kick is the futuristic look of the World's Fair, as personified by Seattle's Space Needle and Monorail (both of which serve as backdrops for EP songs). Just three years out of the Army, Elvis's persona is thoroughly square and tame, ruffled only by the occasional comic double-take. And yes indeed, that is little Kurt...
