Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Welcome back to Cicely, Alaska, where whimsy and magical realism are always in season. While Northern Exposure's heart is as big as all outdoors, its charms are starting to wear a little thin in its penultimate season, particularly John Cullum's New Age-y DJ McDreamy, Chris (one longs for that season 1 episode in which he lost his voice). But there is compensation in such sweet, unexpected moments as the one in "A River Doesn't Run Through It," in which bush pilot Maggie O'Connell (Janine Turner) finds the tape recorder of Dr. Joel Fleishman (Rob Morrow), who is out in the field, and, missing his voice, sits down to listen to one of his tapes. The long-awaited thawing of what Joel calls their "bizarre" relationship is this season's biggest development. Their efforts to "go out" and... Northern Exposure - The Complete First Season Whether it's a snowy nude sprint down Main Street, the mysterious appearance of a long-lost relative, or the improbable death of yet another of Maggie's boyfriends, life's never dull in the remote hamlet of Cicely, Alaska. Colorful characters and quirky plots propelled Northern Exposure into the hearts of millions of viewers, earning the CBS "dramedy" series seven Emmy awards between its 1990 debut and its demise six seasons later. In season 1, we meet Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), an urban New York yuppie who consents to four years of rural servitude after Alaska pays his medical-school tuition. Joel's fish-out-of-water adventures drive the show, but it's the quirky ensemble of characters--Chris, the DJ/philosopher... The replacement music on the DVDs has been such a mighty controversy regarding the release of NX on DVD. It's such a shame because I haven't heard of any other TV show being released on DVD that has had this problem.
I loved the show, and I really didn't notice the replacement music on Seasons 1-3, so I thought it could be forgiven. I figured that the original music was an artistic decision on the part of the creators of the series. If they couldn't get the rights at an affordable price for the DVDs, they would have to make more artistic decisions regarding replacement music. How bad could it be? How far could they go wrong?
I just received all 5 Norhtern Exposure box sets from Amazont. I notice Seasons 1&2, 4, and 5 all have the same packaging (logo on front, logo on spine, discs slide out the right side). But on the 3rd Season set i received, the discs slide out the LEFT side, and there is NO logo on the spine. In fact NOTHING on the spine. No DVD logo, no Universal logo, no Northern Exposure logo. It will look a bit out of place on my shelf, when it's the only box set without the title on the spine of the box. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this inherent in ALL 3rd season box sets, or did i get a mis-print? Any help would be great. Thanks. Did anyone else get scared, considering that Phil was later killed by his wife? Especially with all the arguing in the film between Phil's character's wife & him. It's kinda weird considering I had no idea who he was, but I instantly know his voice from the Simpsons as Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz. (Who does those voices now?) He's a miss.
And how fun was Sinbad? He's a mixture of all the best comedic actors, but he puts his own spin on things. He was perfect in this film, up against Phil's uptight character.
I found this film a bit slow to get started, but it was really got going after a while. It wasn't as exciting as it possibly could have been, but the actors playing the kids were actually quite good, apart from the wee boy. Someone kick him.
