DVD Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Robert Gordon

Maverick (Television Favorites)

Another great western series that is long overdo for DVD release. The 3 episodes picked were very good and in top quality. However this series would be best sold in complete season sets like most other tv shows are being released today A.S.A.P. There are too many great episodes not to release them in seasons. I rate this disc as a great sampler. More Info About This DVD

It Came from Beneath the Sea

Two years after unleashing The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms upon New York City, master special-effects creator Ray Harryhausen turned loose a giant (albeit six-armed) octopus on San Francisco, and the result is another enjoyable atom-age adventure that should please fans of vintage science fiction. Kenneth Tobey, who battled The Thing (From Another World) in 1951, stars as a Navy captain who pursues a monstrous octopoid (sextapoid?) after it attacks his atomic sub. After it wreaks havoc with shipping lanes, he tracks the creature to San Francisco for a final showdown. Scripting by George Worthing Yates (Them!) and Hal Smith and direction by Robert Gordon are perfunctory at best, which gives the always-reliable Tobey and co-star Faith Domergue little to do, but this is... Muddy Waters - Can't Be Satisfied

There could hardly be a better subject for a documentary than arguably the greatest bluesman of the last century, and this look at the life, times, and music of McKinley "Muddy Waters" Morganfield doesn't disappoint. Coproduced and codirected by Robert Gordon, the 54-minute documentary is a nice companion piece to Gordon's book of the same name. It includes some bio material, tracing Waters's evolution from a sharecropping acoustic folk singer to a sharp-dressing, Chicago-based leader of one of the greatest electric bands ever, along with reminiscences and accolades from friends, family, and fellow musicians like Keith Richards, Bonnie Raitt, and Buddy Guy. There's music, too, of course, but if the program has a drawback, it's that there are no complete performances of the deep, dirty... More Info About This DVD
