As an engineer's son, I have never seen a better portrayal of an engineer's enthusiasm for new problems and new challenges. In one unforgettable scene, Frank Langella brought to the screen for the first time in my opinion what can only be called, "the-joy-of-development."
Too often films that deal with invention focus on that moment when the problem comes together and is solved. What they fail to recognize is the first step, when the men and women are looking at the challenge ahead, has even more emotional potential.

John Cleese is a put-upon double bass player in an orchestra which has been engaged to play at the engagement party of a Russian princess (Connie Booth). The Princess has also decided to take a dip in the lake, but while they are swimming disaster strikes and a thief steals their clothes. Okay, I agree. I don't remember reading about Bertie and Jeeves in a lifeboat rowing across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but at that point in the episode ("Bridegroom Wanted"), who cares? It's worth it just for the Jeeves's line: "If you will remember sir, that narrow passage of water that you insisted was the Serpentine turned out to be the Panama Canal." So like them.
And, of course, the classic moment in which Bertie is trying to explain a supposedly hypothetical example involving characters A and B and "some other fellow, what shall we call him?" Jeeves: "C, sir?" Bertie: "Well, all right, I suppose Caesar is as good a name as any."
