DVD Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)

Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. Incident at Vichy (Broadway Theatre Archive)

The action of this play takes place in a single room (and a single act), and this version makes no attempt to change this, so don't watch it if you're looking for filmic frills. The BTA series was originally done for television, so the image quality is not great, but both picture and sound seem to be as good as "new."

Like all the Kultur DVDs of the Broadway Theatre Archive I've seen, this version has no extras to speak of. Aside from the program itself, there is a short of... More Info About This DVD

Six Characters in Search of an Author (Broadway Theatre Archive)

Andy Griffith and John Houseman star in this excellent adaptation of Luigi Pirandello’s benchmark play. Six Characters in Search of an Author is about a family of unfinished characters who take over the rehearsal of another work in order to have their own story told. For this made-for-television production, director Stacy Keach wisely moved the action to a television studio, though otherwise the plot remains the same. Pirandello’s playful opening moments soon give way to the horror of the story the characters have to tell. Though the characters fight to have their scenes played out at last, they are often at cross-purposes, unhappy with the actors’ interpretations and arguing over who is at fault in their tragedy. Beverly Todd gives a fantastic, electric performance... More Info About This DVD
