Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

The Movie Oliver Twist has been given a great new cast of actors. Elijah Wood playing the "Artful Dodger" has outdone himself once more. The story is based on a courageouse young boy named Oliver Twist, as he battles to find the family that he lost, but still dreamed of. About the friendship between Dodger and Oliver, and their adventures and discoverys. As the plot thickens you are taken through a thriller you won't forget! A courageous young boy, an artful thief, a legendary murderer, and a cast of characters that give the movie star quality. This movie is one that Charles Dickens himself would be proud of. A movie all can enjoy and I highly recommend it to any Elijah Wood fan or if you just want to have a good time. This is the movie for you. The put downs I have seen on this movie are... "Hello." This movie would have done better at the box office if it had been cleaned up some because the story is the kind that children like. While this movie has no nudity it does have some bad language and sexual discussions that are inappropriate for children and are probably why it received an "R" rating.
I enjoyed this movie for its advertisements which show the power of truth. I teach marketing at the University of Southern Mississippi and use this movie in my class to introduce several ideas about the art of marketing communications. Everyone howls at the ads and it is very popular with my students.
But... you kind of have to enjoy Dudley Moore's type of humor to sit through the whole movie at one time. I personally find his movies to be tedious but... Truman Capote's classic Depression-era short story is well served in One Christmas, an earnest holiday heartwarmer from the folks at Hallmark Entertainment. It's got all the sentiment one would expect from a Hallmark TV movie, but director Tony Bill knows just how to moderate the maudlin and focus on genuine emotions (as he did for his big-screen releases Untamed Heart and A Home of Our Own). Of course it never hurts to have Katharine Hepburn on board for some high-class pedigree: In her final performance the Hollywood legend goes out on a high note, delivering a pivotal scene about living life with no regrets, and she may just as well be describing her own independent spirit. The great Kate plays a wealthy New Orleans socialite whose spinster niece (Swoosie Kurtz,...
