Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

In its earlier half-hour series starring James Franciscus "Naked City" was a pretty conventional cop show, but when it was expanded to an hour's length and recast with Paul Burke it became more like an anthology series, with its famous "eight million stories" taking in the ordinary people and eccentric characters of New York City. Gradually it developed a unique tone and style, mixing action with sentiment, humour, and occasional moments of the surreal - how many other cop shows, then or now, would begin an episode with a voice-over meditating on the meaning of the Talmud? These DVDs feature episodes from the hour series, chosen in seemingly random order, a wise move as many of the best episodes came later. Picture quality is excellent, showing the atmospheric New York locations to great... More Info About This DVD Director(s): Harry Harris - William A. This movie documents the murder of Holly Maddux by Counterculture hippie Ira Einhorn(Unicron). This is an excellent film based on the history of the relationship between the monster Einhorn and innocent Holly. Einhorn murdered this poor girl and then left her body in a trunk in his closet for 18 months before the police found it. Incredibly he was given bail and escaped to France, finally to be tracked down and eventually brought to justice in October of 2002 when after fighting many appeals and extradition in France he was convicted and sentenced to life in Prison. The movie details the trials up till 2001, so it's a little outdated. The film, though, is important as it spotlights the hypocrisy of the hippie counterculture, it shows how one of its leaders, who preached peace, only... The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James is a good mix of historical facts with a lot of legend. It might be the most accurate movie version, but it's not entirely factual and makes good use of folklore. Legends about Frank and Jesse not having the same father, their Indian wives, and an affair Jesse supposedly had are all worked into the movie. My only complaint is that a scene involving Jesse taking too many drugs for a bullet wound just ends. The movie could have been a little better, but it's pretty good and the performances deserve 5 stars. More Info About This DVD Director(s): William A. Originally made for television, Blood Crime is a standard crime thriller with a better-than-usual plot. Seattle detective Daniel Pruitt (Johnathon Schaech) goes out to the country with his wife Jessica (Elizabeth Lackey, Mulholland Drive), who is brutally attacked; hysterical, she accuses an innocent man, whom Pruitt beats severely. But when he finally contacts the local sheriff (James Caan, The Godfather, Misery), the beaten man turns up dead and turns out to be the sheriff's son. Now Pruitt has to find the real murderer before the evidence starts pointing to him. The script isn't subtle, and as a larger mystery unfolds, some elements of Blood Crime are a little too convenient--but the tension between Pruitt and the sheriff remains surprisingly taut,... There are eight million stories in the Naked City, and this disc compiles four of them from the ABC police drama that should please vintage TV fans with its gritty stories, noirish photography, and New York locations. The quartet included here is culled from the series' second season (1960-61), which was distinctly different from its 1958-59 debut. Stars John McIntire and James Franciscus were replaced by Paul Burke and Horace McMahon as the lead detectives; the half-hour program had also been expanded to 60 minutes. Untouched, however, were the complex, character-driven scripts, powered by stellar actors and directors. Among those featured on this disc are actors Eli Wallach and Walter Matthau, writers W. R. Burnett (High Sierra) and Stirling Silliphant (also the series'... More Info About This DVD Director(s): Harry Harris - William A.
