Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

Nobody made Westerns like Republic. In "Under California Stars," Roy Rogers portrays a singing cowboy movie actor. Truly inspired casting. Roy discovers that evil horse hunters are trapping wild horses on his Double R Ranch. Roy frowns on this bad behavior. He beats up creepy bad guy House Peters, Jr. to stop him from abusing a captured horse. After Roy makes it plain that wild horse hunters are not welcome on his range, the outlaw gang kidnaps Trigger and holds the smartest horse in the movies for $100,000 ransom. The crooks in this little flick are dumber than usual. These B Westerns, filmed in TruColor, were Roy's last series of films before moving to TV in the 1950s. The Sons of the Pioneers pad the script with several musical numbers. Pre-Jingles Andy Devine is the comic relief ranch... Read the horrid reviews (as usual) for the Madacy product, then grab this Hal Roach Studios/Image version of this classic Republic Serial, perhaps second in fame only to THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL. This version is meticulously mastered from the original camera negative with fine grain shots substituted wherever necessary. Where Madacy "simply" eliminates(!) the beginnings and ends of each of their twelve 16mm chapters, making it more into a herky-jerky feature film that runs 3-1/2 hours (then making you buy TWO separate discs in order to obtain the whole story), this Hal Roach Studios version is absolutely complete--four hours on one disc (double-coated, no turning over!) and boasts trailers for six other top serials to boot. All from 35mm, with the visual power and dynamic... More Info About This DVD Director(s): William Witney - John English DVD Release Date: Released the 29 July 2003 Usually ships within 5 to 6 days

The friendly Oseka Indians clash with the crooked owners of a new cannery over fish conservation and supply. The ecology goes to pot, and the Indians are left starving. The conflict escalates to violence and murder. The Bureau of Indian Affairs sends agent Roy Rogers to smooth things over and prevent the outbreak of war along the Canadian border. Filmed in Trucolor, this B Western is a quick hit of Saturday matinee excitement. Both Dale Evans and Pat Brady are absent, but we see the origin of Bullet, Roy's trusty wolf dog that followed him into the '50s TV series. Bullet plays "Wolf." Great casting. Roy rescues him as a tiny pup from a hunter's trap. Noble Johnson plays the stony-faced Indian chief. Among other roles, he played the Nubian slave in 1932's "The Mummy" and the native chief... I rate this dvd a 3 star, only because of the ommitance of approximately 15 minutes. Being an avid fan of Roy Rogers, I want to see his movies in the uncut version. That includes the Republic logo at the start and end of the movie. The quality is excellent and so is the extra information. I am hoping that some other company will be producing these movies in the uncut version on dvd.
