  • DVD Black Dog

An ex-con daredevil trucker must reinfect himself with white-line fever in order to save his wife and kid from nasty gunrunners in this enjoyably mindless, twisted-metal-fest from the director of Passenger 57. Longtime MIA action stud Patrick Swayze (who snagged the part after Kevin Sorbo had to suddenly vacate due to health problems) is even more expressionless than usual in the lead role, but helmer Kevin Hooks compensates with a seriously rocking country soundtrack, some pleasantly eccentric supporting characters (including erstwhile crooner Randy Travis and a way-over-the-top Meatloaf as a psychotic trucker preaching damnation by the dashboard light), and--most importantly--a whole lot of rolling iron getting smashed in spectacularly kinetic fashion. A low-down, down-home, cotton-picking flick that blows up real good. --Andrew Wright

    Review(s): DVD Black Dog
    Keep on truckin'

I was expecting "Black Dog" to just be an average action movie, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Jack Crews (Patrick Swayze) has an assignment to deliver some illegal goods, but he don't know it at first. He has some riders to keep him company on the way, one of which is Earl (country singer Randy Travis). Meat Loaf also stars in this movie as the villain who tries his best to hijack the truck Patrick Swayze is driving. Things get out of hand when Jack's wife and daughter get kidnapped. Jack must find a way to save his family while also trying to stay away from the FBI who are chasing him.

I didn't see anything wrong with "Black Dog." It's one of the best action movies I've seen in awhile and I didn't lose my interest in the film the whole time I was watching it. The explosions and action scenes aren't only awesome, they're realistic. All the actors do a great job, especially Patrick Swayze and Randy Travis.

If you like great action movies, I recommend "Black Dog" as one of the best action movies of the year.

    Dukes of Hazzard Meets Convoy

    Bad movie, great DVD.

I dont remember them filming this in Charlotte. That must have been the day I was run over by an 18 wheeler downtown while a guy sitting way up on a boom with a megaphone in his hand hollered at me "Get out of the way!!!!" I usually remember stuff like this Ma, what day is it?

haw haw haw OK, what happened to Patrick Swayze's nose? Did Meatloaf flatten the thing? And what happened to Meatloaf's Loaf anyway? Aint North Carolina pretty? Aint Patrick Swayze's wife pretty? Dont you wish you lived in New Jersey? And arent you glad they cast the Insurance Salesman from Groundhog Day as an ATF agent? "Ooooh that's a doooozy!" He had more credibility than anybody except for the kid and she could play a kid better than the adults could play adults so I'm votin for her. Yeah, that's it.

Very good transfer, and 5.1 audio that will blow you away, to hell with the neighbors.,,,crank it. No extras to speak of, great soundtrack. 3 AK's

    Excellent movie. Patrick Swayze...WOW

This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I bought the movie and the soundtrack is awesome. Excellent truck driving in the movie. Very exciting, it kept me intrigued through the whole movie as to what was going to happen next. The acting is very good. Patrick Swayze is such a handsome man, he was the best part of the whole movie, but everyone did a great job.Red and his men got exactly what they deserved. If you enjoy a good action movie....then you will enjoy this one.I would rate it a 10.

    Next of Kin DVD

"Next of Kin" is pretty much the standard vigilante movie. Only the actors were changed to protect Charles Bronson in "Death Wish" (1974) and Sylvester Stallone in "First Blood" (1982) from this overplayed formula movie.

Truman Gates' (Patrick Swayze) brother has a brand new truck and is selling wholesale cigarettes. He should be shot for that. Oh, he was. Evidently against the advice of his partner the brother decided to protect the cigarettes from hijackers with his life. On the other hand little Joey Rosselini (Adam Baldwin) is showing off and can not back down from the challenge.

Now Truman must identify the person whom his brother insulted and incarcerate him. You guest it; the rest of the kin which includes Blair (Liam Neeson) thought you were supposed to... More Info about this DVD

    Road House DVD

One of those movies that helped usher out the era of action films that had plots that made any sense (and also helped reverse the direction of Patrick Swayze's career arc), Road House concerns a handsome, existential bouncer in a rinky-dink honky-tonk who owns both a degree in philosophy and a Mercedes. And that's perhaps the most believable aspect of the whole movie. Swayze stars as Dalton, "the best bouncer in the business," who runs afoul of Wesley (Ben Gazzara), the meanest SOB round these parts, by taking up with his former girlfriend, Doc (Kelly Lynch)--the only woman in town with an IQ approaching double digits, even if she had unfathomably hooked up with such a lowlife. Swayze had complained about being typecast as beefcake when this was made, but that didn't stop him from... More Info about this DVD

    Letters From a Killer DVD

This film was not given a fair shake with theatre distribution. Patrick Swayze's performance was very convincing as an innocent man released from prison after serving a long sentence, when new evidence proved the wrong man was convicted. He appeared pale, as you would expect of a person spending so much time locked behind bars. Due to a chain of events beyond his control, he is stalked by a killer, one of several women who had been writing to him while he was in prison. Not having a clue as to who is trying to kill him, a suspenseful pursuit ensues. During filming of a scene where he is fleeing on horseback, his horse bolted and Swayze struck a tree, suffering severe injuries. Trooper that he is, he managed to finish the film (it is noticeable how much pain he is in during the process),... More Info about this DVD
