DVD Mouse Hunt
They've tried Catzilla, a feline so ferocious it can't be euthanized. They've tried booby traps that Rube Goldberg would marvel at. They've even tried Caesar (hilariously played by Christopher Walken), a demented exterminator whose "Squeak Seeker 2000" mouse-cam will infiltrate even the cleverest rodent's secret lair. But the Smuntz brothers Ernie (Nathan Lane) and Lars (British comedian Lee Evans) just can't win against the tenacious mouse that wreaks havoc in the vintage home they've inherited from their father. That's the one-note premise of this chaotic, lavishly produced comedy that starts on a high note and never lets up, eventually leaving the viewer exhausted. The special mouse effects (live-action, animatronic, and computer-generated) are delightful, and the slapstick is frequently ingenious, but the title says it all in a movie that is little more than an elaborate variation of Home Alone. A prime choice for family fun, but it's really just a live-action cartoon that overstays its welcome. It's harmless fun if all you're looking for is a marathon of slapstick gags and pratfalls, and it's notable as the final film appearance of veteran character actor William Hickey, who died in June of 1997, shortly after filming of Mouse Hunt was completed. --Jeff Shannon
I just love this movie. It was shipped in a timely manner and received in good condition.
Revenge of the Mouse
In Mousehunt, two brothers inherit a worthless string factory and a crumbling mansion from their recently deceased, eccentric father. Nathan Lane and Lee Evans play Laurel and Hardy/Abbot and Costello roles. Lane is a chef who loses his gourmet restaurant and his reputation. Lane is a naiive, good-hearted guy married to a gold-digging witch.
All the brothers have left is the string factory and the mansion. Lane just wants to cash in and get out, while Evans is nostalgic, and can't bear to part with Pop's beloved string factory.
The mansion turns out to be a lost house by a famous architect. The brothers want to fix the place up to sell at public auction, and that is when the fun starts.
A little gray mouse wants to live peacefully in the mansion. But Lane says even one "vermin" is too many. The mouse proceeds to outwit the hapless duo and stuff his face with goodies as the house is trashed. Will it be ready again in time for the auction?
The film is in the style of the screwball comedies of the 1930's. Judging by clothes, cars, and speech, the film is set around the 1940's. Adults will enjoy this film, and although kids will love the mouse, there are plenty of naughty, ghastly, or violent moments that should make parents think twice before allowing impressionable kids to see the film. Think I am just a prude? Think again. How about a scene of a cute kitten being gassed at the pound, another cat crushed to death by an elevator, a man plunging his arm into a woman's cleavage and groping around, and more?
yuck how can i describe a terrible piece of junk like this???
it was badddddddd ok i hated this movie i hate a few movies but this oooh this one's most difficult to describe ok first the one guy gets caught by a sewing machine and he loses his clothes in a pile of strings and walks in a room with a lady sitting on in there not wearing much of ANYTHING!!! wierd then cats die and dead people get tossed around bleck worst movie ever next to hulk.
The human beings are almost as interesting as the title character in this surprisingly subtle and engaging film about the cross-country adventures of a smart-mouthed parrot. As director John Roberts deploys the footage, the bird becomes a vivid personality; every quizzical twist of his head is oddly expressive. The people who interact with Paulie are a quirky and interesting bunch as well, and the casting is topnotch: Tony Shalhoub (The Siege) as a Russian immigrant janitor, Cheech Marin as an open-hearted mariachi musician, and Gena Rowlands as a widowed painter in a footloose Winnebago--all are vividly eccentric individuals, memorable in their own right. There are some tired swipes at the cold-blooded meanies of Big Science (beady-eyed researcher Bruce Davison has Paulie clapped... Only a mother or a certified baby-phile could love this John Hughes comedy (he wrote and coproduced it). Aside from that endorsement, the diaper starts to stink. Baby Bink is kidnapped by three inept crooks, but the child escapes from their hideaway, leading to a chase through the city. Bink's journey follows the story line of his favorite bedtime book, Baby's Day Out, and he goes to a zoo, a construction site, and a retirement center. Hughes is following his accountant's favorite bedtime tale, "Let's rewrite Home Alone again," but with very little of the humor or impact of that smash. A number of scenes center on the crushing or incineration of Joe Mantegna's groin, not exactly family-fare yuks. There are some moments of levity with the crooks and a gorilla. --Keith... The popular children's books by Mary Norton have been filmed before, but never with as much imagination and ingenuity as you'll find on display in this delightful fantasy film released to critical praise in 1998. The "Borrowers" of the title are a family of tiny people who live in the walls and under the floorboards in the homes of "normal-sized" humans; they earn their by "borrowing" the household items (string, food crumbs, buttons, etc.) needed to furnish their tiny hiding places and provide their meals. The little Clock family lives happily undisturbed in the home of an aged aunt, but when the aunt dies and her will is stolen by an unscrupulous lawyer (John Goodman), the Clocks face eviction and the frightening hazards of the outside world. Under the ingenious direction of Peter... Here's the pitch: "It's like Toy Story but these toys that come to life really kick butt!" That's essentially it for this breezy popcorn flick. In a very smart first 10 minutes, new toy-company owner Denis Leary tells his crew he wants toys "that play back." Hence the small soldiers land in Anytown, U.S.A., and the loner kid Alan (Gregory Smith) opens them up before they are supposed to be on the shelves. Those military-grade chips sure make them smart and give the toys plenty of pithy retorts to boot. Plenty of violence, er, action, most of it fun enough. The vocal talents, including Tommy Lee Jones, Frank Langella, and cast members of The Dirty Dozen are inspired characters, the humans less so. With Gremlins director Joe Dante at the helm, it plays like a sequel to... The Hank Ketcham comic strip about a mischievous boy named Dennis Mitchell (Mason Gamble) becomes a film directed by Nick Castle (The Last Starfighter) based on a weak script by John Hughes (The Breakfast Club). Gamble is fine and Walter Matthau is persuasive as the grouchy neighbor Mr. Wilson, but Hughes spoils everything by throwing in a formulaic subplot about a criminal (Christopher Lloyd) who doesn't know what he's getting into by abducting Dennis. Been there, done that. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Walter Matthau - Mason Gamble Director(s): Nick Castle DVD Release Date: Released the 28 January 2003 Usually ships in 24 hours
