DVD Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Like a soda pop left open all night, Bueller seems to have lost its effervescence over time. Sure, Matthew Broderick is still appealing as the perennial truant, Ferris, who fakes his parents out and takes one memorable day off from school. Jeffrey Jones is nasty and scheming as the principal who's out to catch him. Jennifer Grey is winning as Ferris's sister (who ends up making out in the police station with a prophetic vision of Charlie Sheen). But there's a definite sense that this film was of a particular time frame: the '80s. It's still fun, though. There's Ferris singing "Twist and Shout" during a Chicago parade, and a lovely sequence in the Art Institute. But don't get it and expect your kids to love it the way you did. Like it or not, it's yours alone. --Keith Simanton
Slightly unbelievable, but folks ate this up in 1986 and still do today when new audiences discover it. Not like movies aren't on a wish-fullfilmant level sometimes, which is the case here. No ones principal would chase after them, and no teen could be a high-school version of James Bond, deceiving whomever he wants. But when you look at the more realistic moments, especially 80s maestro Hughes' patented teen insights, you have some character exploration. The scene in the garage after the car is totaled may be the film's best moment. As Broderick is actually powerless for once over somebody and Cameron decides to do what's best for him respect-wise.
So if you're new to writing watch this film again if you don't know it by heart already:). Just a friendly tip, a great place for screenwriting tips on how to submit is queryletterclinic.com which has a sample query letter, software, and a huge list of production companies.
I Needed A Day Off After Watching This Trash!!!HI Tom !! Benedictine Rules!!!
This movie is a very unfunny so called "Comedy". It is all about this teenage guy named Ferris who wants a day off from school so he can have a good time and enjoy his freedom. None of the jokes in this movie are very funny and Ferris comes across as a smug little brat who thinks he can get away with anything he wants to do. A beautiful car gets totalled in this film which is a real shame. This junk was made by the highly overrated director John Hughes who seemed to enjoy a successful career in his distorted view of Adolescent Thought Processes and Behaviour. I give this movie 5 stars because thankfully Matthew Broderick has faded from our screens in recent years and is now the real life Mr. Sarah Jessica Parker.I also would like to say "Hi" to Tom who works at the Video Store and always helps me to find obscure movies. If you are reading this Tom then my suggestion to you for next Saturday night is to find a HOT date and drive down to the Dromana Drive In Movie Theatre where hopefully you will see "Paradise By The Dashboard Light " as the old song goes and that your car windows will be all steamed up and foggy by the end of the night!!!

John Hughes's popular 1985 teen drama finds a diverse group of high school students--a jock (Emilio Estevez), a metalhead (Judd Nelson), a weirdo (Ally Sheedy), a princess (Molly Ringwald), and a nerd (Anthony Michael Hall)--sharing a Saturday in detention at their high school for one minor infraction or another. Over the course of a day, they talk through the social barriers that ordinarily keep them apart, and new alliances are born, though not without a lot of pain first. Hughes (Sixteen Candles), who wrote and directed, is heavy on dialogue but he also thoughtfully refreshes the look of the film every few minutes with different settings and original viewpoints on action. The movie deals with such fundamentals as the human tendency toward bias and hurting the weak, and because... Molly Ringwald established herself as the teen queen of the '80s in this fresh comedy. The movie is a day in the life of Samantha, whose 16th birthday is turning out to be anything but sweet. All the traumas of teendom come down on one long day, which sees Samantha surrounded by dithery relatives, mooning over a high school hunk, and pursued by a sawed-off Lothario. Sixteen Candles marked the directing debut of John Hughes, and its goofy energy displayed a promising talent with a great ear for high school lingo ... a promise neglected since Hughes became, after Home Alone, a one-man entertainment industry. There are some pretty crass moments (Why the stereotype of the foreign-exchange student from Asia?), but Ringwald's steady appeal smoothes over the rough spots. As the... The era of Molly Ringwald's profitable collaboration with writer-producer-director John Hughes (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club) was at its peak with this 1986 film (directed by Howard Deutch but in every sense part of the developing Hughes empire). Ringwald plays a high school girl on the budget side of the tracks, living with her warm and loving father (Harry Dean Stanton) and usually accompanied by her insecure best friend (Jon Cryer). When a wealthy but well-meaning boy (Andrew McCarthy) asks her out, her perspective is overturned and Cryer's character is threatened. As was the case in the mid-'80s, Hughes (who wrote the script and produced the film) brought his special feel for the cross-currents of adolescent life to this story. In its very commercial way, it is an... Little did Tom Cruise know that he would become a box-office superstar after he cranked up some Bob Seeger and played air guitar in his underwear. But there's more to this 1983 hit than the arrival of a hot young star. Making a stylish debut, writer-director Paul Brickman crafted a subtle satire of crass materialism wrapped in an irresistible plot about a crafty high schooler named Joel (Cruise) who goes into risky business with the beguiling prostitute Lana (Rebecca De Mornay) while his parents are out of town. Joel turns his affluent Chicago-suburb home into a lucrative bordello and forms a steamy personal and professional partnership with Lana, but only as long as the two can avoid the vengeful pimp Guido (Joe Pantoliano) and keep their customers happy. A signature film of the 1980s,... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Tom Cruise - Rebecca De Mornay Director(s): Paul Brickman DVD Release Date: Released the 27 August 1997 Usually ships in 24 hours

Lane Myer (John Cusack) is stuck in a personal hell. A compulsive, adolescent Everyman growing up in Suburbia, USA, not only does he fail to make the prestigious high school ski team (again), but his beloved sweetheart, Beth, also leaves him for Roy, the team's popular, arrogant captain. If this isn't bad enough, he's stuck with a mother who frighteningly experiments--rather than cooks--with food, a brother who builds rockets out of models, and a best friend so desperate for drugs that he settles for snorting powdered snow. Faced with these prospects, Lane opts to end it all ... until he comes up with a ridiculous plan to gain acceptance and win Beth back. Director Savage Steve Holland warps this simple, clichéd premise, letting his wacky imagination twist it into a fairly...
