DVD The Goonies
You may be surprised to discover that the director of the Lethal Weapon movies and scary horror flick The Omen, Richard Donner, also produced and directed this classic children's adventure (which, by the way, was written by Donner's screen-wizard friend Steven Spielberg). Then again you may not. The Goonies, like Donner's other movies, is the same story of good versus evil. It has its share of bad guys (the Fratelli brothers and their villainous mother), reluctant-hero good guys (the Walsh bothers and their gang of friends), and lots of corny one-liners. Like in an old-fashioned Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew plot, the Goonies need to solve a problem: a corrupt corporate developer has bought out their neighborhood and plans to flatten all their homes. Luckily, the beloved gang stumbles on a treasure map. In the hopes of finding the treasure to buy back their houses, the Goonies embark on their quest through underground passages, aboard pirate ships, and behind waterfalls. This swashbuckling and rollicking ride was also a great breeding ground for a couple of child actors who went on to enjoy numerous successes in adulthood: Sean Astin (Rudy, Encino Man) and Martha Plimpton (Pecker, 200 Cigarettes). --Samantha Allen Storey
This movie is a classic and thank you for making it available to me and especially in a timely manner.
A Great Adventure Film For The Kid's: Adults Too!
It seems surprising how long ago "The Goonies" came out: Over 20-years-ago. And it is still an entertaining film. Both of my daughters have seen this film countless times, and still enjoy watching it now and again. The commentary on the DVD is pretty good too, with some members of the cast reuniting [some for the first time since the film] with their own commmentary on what they remembered about the making of the film. This was a very good film for its time, and the cast of characters all complimented each other tremendously in this film. The film is not dated, and if anything it still retains the same charm it did in 1985. It is a timeless children's adventure film that will entertain many children for years to come: Plus, it boasts an incredible young cast of stars who would go on to their own acting fame.
The story centers on a search for a hidden treasure of gold, hidden by a pirate named One-eyed Willey. When the parents of one young child (Sean Astin) are about to lose their home, he decides to enlist his friends in a search for this hidden treasure. However, there is also a secondary action taking place in the film, where a Mother (Anne Ramsey) and her two sons (Joe Pantoliano) and (Robert Davi) are laying low from the police, after a daring prison escape. The late Anne Ramsey gives a delightful performance as Momma Fratelli, and it was a delight to see her wonderful performance. (Joe Pantoliano) and (Robert Davi) are funny as inept thieves, whose constant mistakes and behaviour are funny to watch. When the children seek the gold, this family of criminals go in pursuit of them. However, it is the children, and their quest for the missing treasure that is the center of the film. Your children will enjoy this film. [Adults too!] Highly recommended.
Every Body LOVES a Goonie
I saw this movie as a young teen, and loved it, and to this day I still love this movie.
Grab the family, some popcorn, and sit down for a night of enjoyment.
(OK, I've secretly watched it alone as well!)
Wolfgang Petersen (In the Line of Fire) made his first English-language film with this 1984 fantasy about a boy (Barret Oliver) visualizing the stories of a book he's reading. The imagined tale involves another boy, a warrior (Noah Hathaway), and his efforts to save the empire of Fantasia from a nemesis called the Nothing. Whether or not the scenario sticks in the memory, what does linger are the unique effects, which are not quite like anything else. Plenty of good fairy-tale characters and memorable scenes, and the film even encourages kids to read. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Director(s): Wolfgang Petersen DVD Release Date: Released the 04 September 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours

This epic Lucasfilm fantasy serves up enough magical adventure to satisfy fans of the genre, though it treads familiar territory. With abundant parallels to Star Wars, the story (by George Lucas) follows the exploits of the little farmer Willow (Warwick Davis), an aspiring sorcerer appointed to deliver an infant princess from the evil queen (Jean Marsh) to whom the child is a crucial threat. Val Kilmer plays the warrior who joins Willow's campaign with the evil queen's daughter (Joanne Whalley, who later married Kilmer). Impressive production values, stunning locations (in England, Wales, and New Zealand) and dazzling special effects energize the routine fantasy plot, which alternates between rousing action and cute sentiment while failing to engage the viewer's emotions. Screenwriter William Goldman's novel The Princess Bride earned its own loyal audience on the strength of its narrative voice and its gently satirical, hyperbolic spin on swashbuckled adventure that seemed almost purely literary. For all its derring-do and vivid over-the-top characters, the book's joy was dictated as much by the deadpan tone of its narrator and a winking acknowledgement of the clichés being sent up. Miraculously, director Rob Reiner and Goldman himself managed to visualize this romantic fable while keeping that external voice largely intact: using a storytelling framework, avuncular Grandpa (Peter Falk) gradually seduces his skeptical grandson (Fred Savage) into the absurd, irresistible melodrama of the title story.
And what a story: a lowly stable boy,... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Rob Reiner DVD Release Date: Released the 04 September 2001 Usually ships in 24 hours

Gremlins is a whee of a film (if you don't mind the occasional gross-out) from producer Steven Spielberg, writer Chris Columbus, and director Joe Dante. Zach Galligan is the young man whose inventor father (Hoyt Axton) gives him an odd Christmas present: a tiny, furry creature that comes with a set of rules: don't get him wet, don't feed him after midnight, and keep him away from direct sunlight. But Galligan breaks the first rule and the damp little critter pops out a dozen little offspring. Then the offspring break the second rule and, overnight, turn from cute furry guys to malevolent scaly guys with world domination on their mind. The only way to stop them: rule three. But it's an anxious (and extremely funny) battle to make it to daylight--and the bad gremlins find ways to... When egghead Scotty Smalls moves to town just before the summer vacation of 1962, his first priority is to make friends. He heads to the nearby sandlot only to humiliate himself before the local kids, but star player Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez befriends the awkward boy, teaches him the basics of baseball, and welcomes him to the team. It's a summer filled with camaraderie and fun until Smalls hits his first home run. Problem is, Smalls's home run sends his stepfather's "Babe Ruth" autographed baseball into a neighboring yard that's patrolled by a snarling, slobbering monster called "The Beast." Creativity reigns and hilarity ensues when the boys risk everything to retrieve the ball. A final heroic encounter with "The Beast" and his owner yields some very surprising results....
