DINO is Where it's At!
Dino is the coolest and hippest dude to ever walk the face of this planet and this DVD is 100 % proof of this fact. Whenever I want to get high on Dino I put this on and get stoned on Dean.
It's hard to pick my favorite song, but presently I particularly am digging Dino's version of "Young At Heart." If I could own only one item of Dean's this DVD would be it. Dino is where it's at and this DVD is too. Keep grooving on Dino pallies!
Martin DVD a Golden piece of Nostalga!
If you loved Dean Martin's 60s TV series, "That's Amoré" will bring back many fond memories! Culled from musical numbers performed each week (with a few vintage B&W numbers from earlier TV appearances added to the mix), Dino shows the easy grace, unique phrasing, and good-natured humor that made his vocals so special.
The songs are a mix of his personal hits and old standards, which fit his effortless style perfectly. Many are 'opening' numbers from the show, with Dino jogging down a flight of steps, then laughingly punctuating the music by bouncing along with the rhythm. In contrast are his 'featured' songs from the show, which he performs leaning against Ken Lane's piano, or from a couch in his 'music room', often with a cigarette in hand. These achieve an intimacy rarely equalled, even today.
While the bulk of selections are solos, the DVD does feature duets with Petula Clark and Peggy Lee, two of his favorite guests. The chemistry during these tunes is palpable, even if Dino relies heavily on cue cards for the lyrics, and it's easy to see why so many women found him irresistable!
My only quibble, and it is a minor one, is producer Greg Garrison, frequently appearing to 'introduce' numbers, and reminisce. The songs certainly need no introductions...but Garrison's devotion to his star is so sweet and sincere that you can't really complain, much...
All in all, "That's Amoré" is a treat, and will have you itching to see a collection of the ENTIRE programs the songs were 'lifted' from!
I found this video enjoyable and the production quality of the DVD decent.
Essentially it is a string of black and white television clips of Dean Martin singing presented in a music-video style (right down to the MTV-esque printing of the song information in the lower left corner of the screen).
The bland, milktoast narrator gives an initial introduction before each clip starts-- but the narration is generally not very informative or insightful--comments are rather generic and give basic facts about the song (year of recording and sometimes the artist who orignially recorded it) or Dean's life which most fans already know (that he was born in Stubenville, Ohio; that he drank apple juice instead of liquor onstage; etc).
Ways to improve this DVD would be to have an option where you... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Dean Martin DVD Release Date: Released the 09 December 2003 Usually ships within 24 hours

The title might be a trifle grand for what is essentially a one-hour 1962 TV special--that's been colorized, yet. But Judy Garland is in fine voice, belting out signature tunes like "When You're Smiling" and "The Man That Got Away." Rat Packers Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are at their unctuous best, with Sinatra at one point casually flicking ash from his cigarette right onto the stage while singing an emotional "I See Your Face Before Me." The patter among the three stars is a bit stiff, but the numbers are all showstoppers, and Garland, especially, is belting in her most over-the-top Carnegie Hall tradition. Her finale, a medley of "Swanee," "Rock-a-bye Your Baby" and "San Francisco" still brings down the house 40 years later. (Trivia alert: the special was directed by a... Life is full of coincidences. I recently received an email from another Amazon reviewer who was kind enough to drop me a line complimenting on some on my reviews on this site. This only rarely occurs, so it seemed particularly striking that the gentleman in question also mentioned being a big Sinatra fan. I have only posted a few reviews relating to Sinatra projects, and none of them were among those that my correspondent was referring to, so the mention seemed to be apropos of nothing I had written.
But by sheerest coincidence, I had just been on a bit of a Sinatra kick myself and had justwatched his CLASSIC DUETS the night before. It turned out to be familiar territory. (I believe I had seen it broadcast on PBS previously.) No matter. It was fun to take in again. ... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 10 June 2003 Usually ships in 24 hours
