Review(s): DVD Crunch - The Perfect Yoga Workout: The Joy of Yoga & Fat-Burning Yoga
    Great DVD for beginners

As a person who doesn't like to do any strenuous exercise this is a perfect workout. It isn't too easy and it isn't too hard. I still get a good workout but I don't get the painful stitches in the side that I get with running or stepping ect. The joy of yoga is a great way to start and the fat burning yoga is a very fun and fast paced workout. I love it

One of my favorites. Perfect intensity!

This has become one of my favorites. The poses are held to perfection, and there are many offered in this workout. Sarah Ivanhoe does an excellent job of explaining the positions and poses, keeping you on track for perfect alignment.

The Joy of Yoga: is a great place to start for the beginner and can provide variety for the intermediate since they also show more advance moves as you progress in Yoga form. This workout creates stamina and strength as I can definitely feel my muscles when I am done. The workout is 40 minutes long and is great for the days you don't have enough time.

Fat Burning Yoga: I don't know if it really is burning fat, but it does build in intensity, making you sweat and elevating your heart rate. This workout moves a tad faster than the joy of yoga, which makes this combination series a must have. This routine is also 40 minutes. This session can also prepare you for more advanced Ashtanga or power yoga in the future.

When I feel really ambitious and want an excellent workout overall, I will combine these workouts in one session, making my total workout 75 minutes. I skip the relaxation part at the end of Joy of yoga and move onto Fat Burning yoga as I don't want to end my momentum.

Trust me, if you combine these two workouts after you become more in tune with the asana's, you will feel so energized, relaxed and alive. I always feel my best after an hour or more of yoga. Shorter spurts will work for the novice, but as you grow in strength as I am, your body will literally begin to crave more and more of this invigorating lifestyle known as YOGA!

This is a must have to any collection.

    Good yoga workout, but stiff

Dr. Beth wrote a great review.
Sara Ivanhoe is very friendly, but a bit stiff. Many times she'll say how hard everything is which is meant to be sympathetic, but comes off reminding me how much I'm working to lose weight instead of enjoying how good the poses feel themselves. She never stops talking which can be ok if to remind you to breathe or keep your back straight, but she talks off-topic atimes & too quick & stiff which keeps you from concentrating on your body.
The background music can't be heard unless you listen for it which should be there to help you to relax. The colorful industral background was too gym lookiing.
The workout was challenging & had some great twists, but it did not flow. This workout is more of a stiff slow aerobics then yoga. She does teach well, remembers most cues & details to make sure you do it right, doing each pose slowly at first to build it to a series which she repeats 2-4x. The poses were the basic sun salutations, forward bends, chair pose, downward dog, side angle, warrior 1 & 2, triangle pose, table, bow, locust, wide legged sretch, as well as some deep twisting poses.

A past reviewer remarked she was new & it showed... During the side angle or triangle pose she said to use the hand at the floor as an anchor to keep you in the pose... Isn't the correct way to use your abdominal & leg muscles to hold you & just have lower arm as a slight balance, nothing more since the point is to extend the arms as much as possible?
If you like the straight-foward do the pose & done, this is the DVD for you. If you like ones that are more relaxed with music being able to be heard to keep your breathing in tune, & the teacher being serene, try Rodney Yee, Rainbeau Mars, Wai Lana & others.

    Crunch - Candlelight Yoga DVD

The name may suggest a bedtime yoga routine, but these deep stretches and restorative postures are also appropriate in conjunction with a cardio or strength training workout--or as a stress buster at any time of day. Instructor Sara Ivanhoe has a soothing, encouraging manner, but dispenses with the pseudo-spiritualism of some programs (as opposed to the real Eastern philosophy espoused in more serious efforts). She takes the time to explain the essential yogic breathing and each posture is clearly demonstrated--including modifications. After seated stretches, she teaches a series of kneeling cat poses, launches into down dog, and a standing twist. For balance: tree pose, then lunges, forward bends, and a butterfly stretch. This 43-minute practice isn't particularly advanced or strenuous,... More Info about this DVD

Crunch - Fat Burning Pilates DVD

"Calorie burning cardio plus Pilates-based toning," promises this 40-minute Crunch program, which combines Pilates-influenced standing and mat exercises. In the cardio section, instructor Ellen Barrett uses Pilates terminology (e.g. "standing imprint") as she adapts Pilates moves to rather repetitious standing exercises--mostly squats and leg lift variations--which work the core muscles of the abdominals and back as well as legs, thighs, and buttocks. The moves are sometimes slow and rarely "travel," so your heart rate might not stay elevated, although your lower body and core muscles will get a good workout. The toning section consists of Pilates mat exercises which work abs, back, thighs, and buttocks. One exerciser demonstrates easier modifications. The background music is dominated by... Crunch - Pick Your Spot Pilates DVD

This Pilates workout's subtitle, "Pick Your Spot," sums up its flexibility; the three 10-minute segments each tone the abdomen, rear, and thighs using Pilates-based exercises. Crammed into each segment are up to 10 exercises. "Belly" features the 100, criss-cross, twist, and mermaid; "Butt" includes swimming, double leg kicks, and leg circles; and "Thighs" offers the frog, front kicks, and leg lifts. While each segment is too brief to challenge veteran exercisers, viewers are free to hit the pause button and add reps. Plus, a 10-minute bonus total-body Pilates workout proves more demanding than the individual segments. L.A. Crunch instructor Ellen Barrett does an excellent job of initiating newbies to the regulated breathing and core muscle control needed for the exactness of this... More Info about this DVD

Crunch - Burn & Firm Pilates DVD

I was cautious with this purchase... I hated Pick your Spot Pilates (by Crunch).

This is a great video! The music is great (one song is from the firm ^_^) I noticed a lot of ballet moves in this one! Ballet is great when it comes to toning!

The instructor is lively and excited, as are the people in the background. I love seeing multiple people doing the exercises "correctly" at different levels. It helps me adjust my movement/stances at my own pace.

The music was fine--- The instructor stayed up with the rhythm of the music. More Info about this DVD

Crunch - Boot Camp Training DVD

This intermediate-to-advanced video from the trendy gym Crunch will work all your muscles, including your heart. The intense half-hour workout is divided into seven-and-a-half-minute segments. Instructor Susan Hitzman and her class of young, perfect hardbodies (showing off incredibly tight, sculpted midriffs) demonstrate strengthening moves that combine upper- and lower-body muscles, for example, doing an overhead press with weights and a squat simultaneously, varying the rhythm for intensity. And, of course, it wouldn't be "boot camp" without pushups. "Remember, I would rather you gave me 4 excellent pushups than 12 sloppy ones!" Hitzman announces. By the end you'll be begging for mercy, because each segment has progressively harder pushup variations, including some you've never tried.... More Info about this DVD
