Review(s): DVD Billy Joel - The Essential Video Collection
Brilliant Songs; Slapstick Video
This DVD has my most favorite Billy Joes songs. The songs I used to listen to endlessly as a teenager and those that have so much memories associated with.
The picturization are like watching slapstick comedy. Please don't ruin your memories watching these unless you want to ruin these songs for you.
ITS A ESSENTIAL VIDEO COLLECTIO YOU SHOULD HAVE
If you know Billy Joel work. You will like this DVD. Maybe could have better clear image but maybe is not possible. I recommend it.
Billy Joel Fans will enjoy these Videos!
I'm also a huge fan of Billy Joel (have all of his albums since I was a kid). I often tell friends, I have never been to New York, but listening to Billy takes me there! He's a bit of story teller with the talent to write catchy tunes.
I gave this DVD 4 stars because while I like all the Videos in the DVD, it's by no means a complete collection. There are songs missing from the Storm Front and River of Dreams Albums, and some of his older stuff too. It was a surprise to see such songs as "Los Angelenos" and "James" on this collection. I like his 80's videos because they go very well with his music. Perhaps a two CD collection could have captured everything nevertheless, it's still a must have for Billy Joel fans.

If you like Billy Joel as much as I do and enjoy music videos, Columbia Music Video's Billy Joel Greatest Hits Volume III: The Video is a DVD you should add to your video library.
Although its running time doesn't quite allow CMV to present all the songs from the 1997 CD with the final volume of Joel's greatest hits, the DVD includes some of the best songs from that album, including "Keeping the Faith," "A Matter of Trust," "We Didn't Start the Fire," "And So It Goes," and "The River of Dreams."
Volume III covers the last 10 years of Joel's pop/adult rock and charts his artistic evolution. Creative and always exploring new musical territory, Joel is a versatile songwriter/vocalist, able to leap from style to style almost effortlessly. On this collection of videos, he goes... Elton John has had too many hits over the last three decades for the 12 songs in this collection to seriously be considered his "greatest," but that's hair-splitting. This hourlong concert, performed by John, his band, and several guest singers before a packed house at New York's Madison Square Garden in October 2000, certainly does contain some of his (and lyricist Bernie Taupin's) best and most popular tunes, like "Candle in the Wind," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," and "Your Song." And while Elton is a rather unlikely pop star these days--chubby, middle-aged, far less flamboyant than in his '70s heyday--he can still put on a good show, and that's just what he and his band (including longtime cohorts Davey Johnstone on guitar and Nigel Olsson on drums)... It's hard to believe that this 1990 concert was filmed before "NYPD Blue" came out. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to use jumpy hand-held cameras and jumpier 80s-style video effects. It's as if they didn't have faith in the music or the HUGE turnout at a giant ballpark to set the moment. You don't get a chance to watch anyone perform because the camera is jumping around all over the place.
But pump the audio from this DVD through your big speakers and turn the TV off. NOW you get it! This is great music performed at a great concert with a lot of energy! These are great songs performed by talented musicans. Billy puts on an awesome performance. ESPECIALLY on "That's Not Her Style" and "Scenes From An Italian Resturant" (two live favorites that don't appear on Joel's earlier... What started as a suggestion for Paul Simon to play a concert in New York's Central Park blossomed, on September 19, 1981, as a full-blown Simon and Garfunkel reunion after an 11-year hiatus, and now proves a priceless snapshot of two of America's greatest folk-rock performers. (It's also the rightful bookend to Simon and Garfunkel's acoustic Live from New York City, 1967.)
Performed with a who's-who of East Coast session aces before a record-setting crowd of half a million fans, The Concert in Central Park finds its stars just shy of their 40th birthdays and very much in their primes, their voices sweet and pure and their playing relaxed, perfectly in tune and in synch. The show features a mix of S&G and solo Simon tunes, including all the songs that appear on the CD,... The long-defunct, Southern California band regrouped for an album, an expensive tour (expensive for ticket buyers, that is), and this televised special, which features the Eagles in performance. Laid-back but sharp and even stirring during a longish acoustic set, the guys quickly get past the nostalgia element and sound truly viable. They even make it look easy: the sight of Joe Walsh wearing glasses and sitting in almost perfect repose as he effortlessly colors old hits "Tequila Sunrise" and new material such as "Learn to Be Still" may make you wonder why you ever stashed that guitar in the attic. But the band eventually gets off their stools and rocks out on "Hotel California" and other Eagles standards. All in all, it's an enjoyable and mellowing show. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Director(s): Beth McCarthy-Miller DVD Release Date: Released the 16 February 1999 This item is currently not available.
