DVD Baby's Day Out
Only a mother or a certified baby-phile could love this John Hughes comedy (he wrote and coproduced it). Aside from that endorsement, the diaper starts to stink. Baby Bink is kidnapped by three inept crooks, but the child escapes from their hideaway, leading to a chase through the city. Bink's journey follows the story line of his favorite bedtime book, Baby's Day Out, and he goes to a zoo, a construction site, and a retirement center. Hughes is following his accountant's favorite bedtime tale, "Let's rewrite Home Alone again," but with very little of the humor or impact of that smash. A number of scenes center on the crushing or incineration of Joe Mantegna's groin, not exactly family-fare yuks. There are some moments of levity with the crooks and a gorilla. --Keith Simanton
If you are a fan of the classic Three Stooges or Marx Brothers movies, "Baby's Day Out" is for you! This movie is one of the best slapstick movies made since the classics of the 30's and 40's. The timing of the gags, the completely logical yet completely impossible setups, and the skill of the actors come together to make this one of the most hilarious movies I've seen! I was grateful when the director would switch to scenes of the parents of the "kidnapped" baby, just so I could catch my breath. And of course, the the baby (played by twins, as usual) is cute enough to make the hardest heart melt, especially at the inevitable happy ending. It's not "Waiting for Godot" or anything, but it's a great way to spend an hour and a half, just being entertained!
Baby's day out
The DVD is perfect especially for the fact that you can play it both sides. The problem I have is that it only plays on my computer and doesn't play on my DVD player, it tells me to check the regional code...what does that mean?
A GUILTY PLEASURE
AFTER BIG BERTHA RECOMENDED THIS MOVIE RACED OUT TO THE STORE AND BOUGHT
10 COPIES HIDING ONE IN EVERY ROOM IN MY HOUSE, BECAUSE SOMETIMES I JUST GET
TO LOOK AT IT. BIG BERTHA FORGET A SEQUEL WHAT ABOUT A PREQUEL. IT HAS JUST ABOUT THE SAME CHARM AS "CABIN BOY" OR "LOST AND FOUND".
High society gets a dose of monkey business in this family-friendly bit of simian slapstick. Less foul and more fun than Clyde from the Clint Eastwood comedies, Dunston is the practical-joking orangutan partner of foppish jewel thief Rupert Everett. Making his escape in a five-star New York hotel, Dunston lands in the protective care of 10-year-old Eric Lloyd, the high-spirited son of harried hotel manager Jason Alexander, and together they turn the snooty social event of the year into a zoo. Faye Dunaway is Alexander's overbearing boss just aching for a comic comeuppance, and Paul "Pee-wee Herman" Reubens dons a mauve tuxedo as Buck La Farge, animal-control specialist. Would you believe the monkey upstages them all? Though hardly the smartest comedy around, this is a cute, cuddly little... They've tried Catzilla, a feline so ferocious it can't be euthanized. They've tried booby traps that Rube Goldberg would marvel at. They've even tried Caesar (hilariously played by Christopher Walken), a demented exterminator whose "Squeak Seeker 2000" mouse-cam will infiltrate even the cleverest rodent's secret lair. But the Smuntz brothers Ernie (Nathan Lane) and Lars (British comedian Lee Evans) just can't win against the tenacious mouse that wreaks havoc in the vintage home they've inherited from their father. That's the one-note premise of this chaotic, lavishly produced comedy that starts on a high note and never lets up, eventually leaving the viewer exhausted. The special mouse effects (live-action, animatronic, and computer-generated) are delightful, and the slapstick is... The Hank Ketcham comic strip about a mischievous boy named Dennis Mitchell (Mason Gamble) becomes a film directed by Nick Castle (The Last Starfighter) based on a weak script by John Hughes (The Breakfast Club). Gamble is fine and Walter Matthau is persuasive as the grouchy neighbor Mr. Wilson, but Hughes spoils everything by throwing in a formulaic subplot about a criminal (Christopher Lloyd) who doesn't know what he's getting into by abducting Dennis. Been there, done that. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Walter Matthau - Mason Gamble Director(s): Nick Castle DVD Release Date: Released the 28 January 2003 Usually ships in 24 hours

When babies babble or draw, adults jokingly say they know what the baby is trying to communicate. What if a clinic found that these babblings and doodles were actually very intelligent responses or scribbling of an ancient form of communication? Well, it seems that all it would create is this tepid comedy. Kathleen Turner runs the clinic that believes babies have "universal knowledge" before they learn to speak (and dumb down). What she plans to do with this knowledge is never really understood, but know this: the plans are evil. The secret lives of babies have been pretty adorably filmed previously with Look Who's Talking, but here the babies talk and move via visual effects like the animals in Babe. They also karate chop adults and talk about such adorable things as... A movie only a kid could love, which was the whole point. Harvey Keitel plays a small-time thief who performs as an organ grinder on the boardwalk at Venice Beach. His scam involves his monkey, which has been trained to pick pockets. Now a mob boss wants to borrow the monkey to pull off some big scores--but the monkey runs away and is adopted by a lonely little girl (Thora Birch). She finds herself in increasingly hot water when her new pet starts bringing her the valuables of everyone in the neighborhood. Birch is a natural young actress, while Keitel hams it up shamelessly (he reportedly made the film to amuse his young daughter). --Marshall FineMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Harvey Keitel - Thora Birch Director(s): Franco Amurri DVD Release Date: Released the 03 September 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours
