DVD The Sandlot
When egghead Scotty Smalls moves to town just before the summer vacation of 1962, his first priority is to make friends. He heads to the nearby sandlot only to humiliate himself before the local kids, but star player Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez befriends the awkward boy, teaches him the basics of baseball, and welcomes him to the team. It's a summer filled with camaraderie and fun until Smalls hits his first home run. Problem is, Smalls's home run sends his stepfather's "Babe Ruth" autographed baseball into a neighboring yard that's patrolled by a snarling, slobbering monster called "The Beast." Creativity reigns and hilarity ensues when the boys risk everything to retrieve the ball. A final heroic encounter with "The Beast" and his owner yields some very surprising results. Action, humor, and friendship permeate this 101-minute film appropriate for ages 5 and older. Rated PG due to name-calling and some pubescent behavior. --Tami Horiuchi
Just the absolute best baseball/childhood movie ever! The world needs more Bennie's!
This movie is one of the most quoted movies about baseball and growing up in rural America ever. I am a teacher and I would tell students that they should be a "Bennie" and show them the one scene when he invites Smaltz to come and play. He defends him, gives him stuff to help him succeed, and then hits him a ball to help him succeed. How often does the local talent help others succeed or just gloat on how good they are and then try to make everyone else look stupid. The world needs more Bennie's. The story of the dog was just OK, it did help unite the boys into a tight team. I still hear it quoted almost daily among college and high school students.
wasnt that good
i dont really have to write along review for this movie, ill jus stick to the point. all i can say is thats is alright...it wasnt the best i seen....if you want something wit better characters and more action check out little Giants.
Sandlot is a great movie
This movie is great. It is a nice family film that is engaging and clever. The dialogue is funny and the story is sweet. It deals with childhood friendships, courage and baseball. It is one of my favorite films of all time and I would recommend it to anyone with boys who like sports.
This is the kind of movie that you can pop in on a lazy, rainy day when you need to be lifted up a little. It's a wonderful movie with a lot of great jokes and physcial humour. Kind of like Mighty Ducks, but in my opinion, a lot better with greatly funnier jokes. The only thing keeping me from giving this a full five stars, and a lot of you will think it's a stupid reason....as do I, but on the original VHS version, there was a Michigan J. Frog cartoon short before the movie. This is absent on the dvd version. That said, the dvd is a lot better for many other reasons. There are really cool bios about the people who helped invent football, a theatrical trailer for the movie, a really awesome special introduction by Shawna Waldron, who played Becky The Icebox in the movie (man, she got... A decade has passed in the small town where the original Sandlot gang banded together during the summer of 62 to play baseball and battle the Beast. Now comes the sequel, a campy romp back to the dugout where nine new kids descend on the diamond only to discover that a descendant of the Beast lives in Mr. Mertles backyard--a monster of mythical proportions known as "The Great Fear." Director/writer David Evans cleverly ties his two films together by introducing Johnnie Smalls, kid brother of Scotty Smalls ("Youre killin me, Smalls") who is well-versed in the legendary struggle for possession of the Babe Ruth baseball. Smalls befriends the sandlot gang (which now includes three girls) and its leader, David Vincent Durango, and relates the rumor of "a mutated,... More Info about this DVD Director(s): David M. Baseball movies seem like a sure thing, combining the drama of the game with positive values. So it's too bad this pleasant film takes the field in the most superficial way. Henry, the worst player in Little League, suffers an injury that miraculously heals as the strongest pitching arm in the world. His life becomes a kid's dream with a career in the Majors, but nothing really happens. His strength cannot hide his lack of skill, yet audiences love him, probably to support subplots such as the team being rescued from bankruptcy and Mom's boyfriend turning bad. Small attempts are made to create character, relationships, and themes. Gary Busey, as a burnt-out pitcher named Rocket, finds a family. Henry learns the importance of being a kid, not to mention a surprisingly cynical lesson about... This effects-heavy, 1994 remake of the 1951 film starring Janet Leigh and Keenan Wynn is all computer-generated pizzazz, with none of the charm or imagination of the original. Aimed squarely at children this time, the story focuses on a boy who gets some divine intervention on behalf of his favorite ball club. Christopher Lloyd plays the head angel, and Danny Glover is good as the team's manager, but the real star of the film--for better or worse--is the software that makes a glowing, celestial presence on the field seem real. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Danny Glover - Brenda Fricker - Tony Danza Director(s): William Dear DVD Release Date: Released the 23 April 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

This likable 1976 comedy gently skewers the whole post- Rocky mania for movies about losers who find their mettle or salvation or purpose in life in competitive sport. Walter Matthau stars as a drunk who becomes manager of a pathetic little-league baseball team. When he brings in a talented girl pitcher (Tatum O'Neal), the crew have an actual chance at winning some games and maybe a championship. But director Michael Ritchie (Downhill Racer) undercuts the romance of it all with the team's foul-mouthed tendencies and Matthau's own decadent spin on mentor-coachdom. Similarly to Ritchie's wicked comedy Smile --which lampooned the fervor surrounding beauty pageants--The Bad News Bears pokes fun at another American institution. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Walter Matthau - Tatum O'Neal Director(s): Michael Ritchie DVD Release Date: Released the 12 February 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours
