Review(s): DVD Mudvayne: L(ive) D(osage) 50 - Live In Peoria
BAd sound quality?!?!?!
WHen i first watched this dvd i was appalled by the poor sound quality and video quality. it really detracts from the band's performance. the other thing that shocked me was how bad the live vocals are. kud lets the whole thing down when he hits the wrong nots, leaves out words or sings at the wrong time. if you blend that with the flawless drumming, amazing bass and awesome guitar its just like putting ketchup on your sushi, they don't go together. If you are a real big mudvayne fan i would suggest you buy it, otherwise save the cash for thier next studio cd due out in november
Alright....but Mudvayne got ALOT better live
I saw Mudvayne at this year's Summer Sanitarium and was a bit skeptical because I had heard some of their live stuff before (simply observe this DVD or the Ozzfest 2001 cd). Chad's voice just wasn't at it's best. But I guess he got smart and started taking care of it, and took vocal classes to make sure he wouldn't lose his voice during their shows. Boy did it ever pay off, because even for the openers (which is total bullsh--) they blew the place away. This DVD does not do them much justice. First off, the video quality is shockingly bad for DVD, and of course, Chad's vox where nowhere near as great as they normally are. Musically, I'd give it about an 8/10 because there are a few f-ckups and moments of annoying feedback but flaws aside, Mudvayne play their @$$es off here. Just be sure not to let this ruin your plans to see them live in the future. I promise you they rule. Keep heavy music alive!
LD50-LIVE IN PEORIA
This DVD is amazing. It was interesting to see a live concert w/o all the gloss-over. Instead of covering up the live sound w/ Pro Tools, Mudvayne opted to keep the raw sound of a live show. Of course it doesn't sound as good as a carefully produced studio CD so if that bothers you don't buy this DVD. But if you have an appreciation for live music and how incredibly talented this band is, then this DVD is a great addition to your collection. I was fortunate enough to see this band last year. I really hadn't listened to them before the show but I have been a diehard fan since. The drums are flawless, the bass is stomach-wrenching, and the vocals unbelieveably powerful. The guitar work is pretty basic but it holds onto the "nu metal" sound. I highly recomend this DVD or anything else Mudvayne to current fans as well as anyone who has an appreciation for intricate and innovative music.

Unless you're a diehard music fan sitting and watching a live dvd can sometimes be boring if all the band does is play but for Slipknot this is not the case. Not only is the music great but the band is just awesome to watch on stage. I've been to a Slipknot show and this DVD really lives up to what a Slipknot concert is all about. From People = S*** to Surfacing the whole DVD provides unforgettable footage from one of the greatest bands of the nu-metal era. Also the DVD includes the rare song Purity which is a great sogn and it's hard to find anywhere else unless you illegally download it.

To put it bluntly, I am a huge fan of Mudvayne. And after seeing them live for the first time at the very Sanitarium Tour that is featured on this DVD (Wish it was my concert though: Orlando!), buying this was not just an option, it was a necessity.
Anywho, back to the actual DVD. Once again, the live footage featured here is from last year's Summer Sanitarium tour. And quite simply, the footage is awesome. Aside from Chad's vocals being a little strained from touring the entire summer, the band sounds perfect. I had seen them again a few months later when they came back to the House of Blues and his voice had gotten a lot better.
Anyway, the best performances had to have been Internal Primates Forever, -1, Nothing to Gein (oh yes), and World So Cold. A surprise to many perhaps, but... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Mudvayne DVD Release Date: Released the 11 November 2003 Usually ships within 24 hours

i will start with the only drawback for this live DVD. i found the filming to be choppy. for example, the camera is on johnathon and then blink, move to head or fieldy or whatever. blink move blink move repeat. the camera never stayed still long enough for me to focus. it was quite annoying and difficult to adjust to. this is why i could not give this 5 stars. other than this it was pretty damn good. i did not expect the korn "sound" to come across in the dvd as well as it did. i have seen korn 2x live and they have this incredible sound that is really awesome on record. it is 1000x sweeter live. i was bowled over to hear that sound pumping thru my speakers as i watched the dvd. korn is not a fan to take lightly. there is an incredible amount of energy on stage as well as with the... As soon as I heard DIG off of napster; I fell in love with this band. No band has a better bass to kick drum relationship or singing to screaming ability. If you were to listen to Mudvayne for the first time it would resemble Rush on steroids. The bands timing and timing changes are so precise that you could swear you were listening to a MIDI recording straight from the computer. If you were to compare mudvayne to slipknot... the only thing you would find similar is that they are from small Midwest towns such as myself.
The video has the infamous multi-view angles of DIG which the user can control, a half-hour making of the video, the EPK package, 5.1 surround sound, and a digital photo gallery. I do agree it could have had some footage of the House of Blues preformance on it. That is... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 10 April 2001 Usually ships within 24 hours
