Hav Plenty is one of my top five movies of all time!!!
the first time i saw this movie it was by pure chance. i had no idea as to what to expect... talk about finding a diamond in the rough. it was brilliantly written, directed, and the acting was perfect. in watching the movie, you feel as if you are in the story as a silent witness to this amazingly funny and sometimes weird story. to me, this is a cult classic... even if i am the only person in the cult.
An awesome movie for everyone!
I absolutely love this movie, I rank it at the top of my favorites list. I'm white, so I don't know how "authentic" or whatever a portrayal of African-Americans it is. It must be fairly authentic, it was written by an African-American man, and no one holds the market on yuppies or starving artists! ;-)
My question is, why isn't this guy in more films? He is HOT and funny, and obviously extremely talented. I'd line up to see anything this guy was in. If you want a smart, sexy romantic comedy, this is the movie for you.
O.k.
I seen this movie a long time ago and had mixed emotions. It is O.k. I did not like the Havelent (?) character. I don't like when Black Sisters are played in a mean and ignorant light. (Give a brother a nice hello or smile) I hated that he got her in the end. There were some scenes I liked, such as when the husband punched the Plenty character (funny) and the arrogance of the Hil Harper character. Babyface and is wife Tracey, Oh there acting skills were awful. However I am happy they produced the movie. This movie gets a 3 stars.
I can honestly admit that at some point in my life I suffered from the same problem as Micheal, which made me buy the movie in the first place I was suprised at how well the movie was written, and how well it address the subject of how detrimental porn can be to a healthy relationship.Kudos to the stars and Kudos to the director for making a film like this. I suggest every man at some point in his life take a good hard look at this movie. This film was one that I picked up one Friday evening after work. I did not expect too much but I hoped for atleast a few laughs. It was however a very nice surprise, it was much more interesting than I ever expected it to be. Tracey Morgan, is very funny and convincing in his role as the main character, which seems somewhat biographic. Yet he shows a very serious side of himself, that offers the viewer a quick glance at what he is actually capable of. The casting, acting and production is very well done. But of course I am biased because I could watch this movie a thousand times (which is why I have finally ordered it) just to see the dark and lovely Ms.Erika Alexander. What was with that dude in the film, I would have married her at the beginning of the film, oops well anyway.

Boy meets girl, and boy loses girl--no more and no less than that--in this romantic story of young, upwardly mobile African Americans navigating through Chicago club culture to the perilous shores of a relationship. The film was surprisingly popular at a couple of key film festivals in 1997, but there isn't anything particularly noteworthy about it aside from its rare emphasis on a love affair between black urbanites. Larenz Tate and Nia Long are fine in the leads (Tate makes a convincingly self-centered boy-man), and director Theodore Witcher aims for his small target and hits it squarely. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Larenz Tate - Nia Long Director(s): Theodore Witcher DVD Release Date: Released the 27 July 1999 Usually ships in 24 hours

Eddie Murphy makes a graceless debut as a romantic lead in this comedy from Reginald Hudlin. Murphy stars as a ladies man for whom the tables turn when he suddenly finds himself taken for granted by a lover (Robin Givens). Meanwhile, the platonic friend (Halle Berry) whom Murphy regularly visits is obviously--to the viewer, anyway--the woman he's supposed to be with. The absurdly long film is filled out with some fairly crude humor, such as the sight of Geoffrey Holder taking a whiff of Grace Jones's underwear. Yet Hudlin and Murphy also strain for a veneer of elegance and sophistication. Wanting to play it both ways, they end up with nothing. But there are several good sequences where Murphy is quite funny just being Murphy, such as his explanation to Berry of how you can tell which... It looks like writer-director Rick Famuyiwa started a popular trend with his marriage-jitters comedy about three friends who reminisce about their lives together as one prepares to leave the group when he gets married. Everyone who rushed to see The Best Man should catch this sleeper which also stars Taye Diggs (as Roland, the reluctant groom), as well as Omar Epps and Richard T. Jones, who together provide charming, cheerful performances full of warmth and humor. This buddy story is told through flashbacks to 1986, when the three met at public school. The young men gain our affection in their competition to win the most girls, which enhances the bond of loyalty we see in them as men on the eve of Roland's wedding. The casting of the boy actors is almost spooky in its perfection,... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Rick Famuyiwa DVD Release Date: Released the 18 January 2000 Usually ships in 24 hours
