DVD Lassie
This 1994 update on the Lassie legend stars Thomas Guiry as a troubled city kid whose family retreats to the country, where he befriends the famous collie and changes for the better. Conflict develops when a ruthless sheep rancher causes trouble for everyone. Director Daniel Petrie (The Bay Boy) aims only to revive the healthy spirit of previous Lassie films (and the television series) in a new milieu, and toward those modest ambitions--predictable plot and all--he succeeds. Guiry is unusually good in what many young actors would have taken to be just another blossoming-teen part. --Tom Keogh
I rented this video for my kids, ages 2 and 8, thinking it was the old-time Lassie flick. Was surprised to hear a comment about "Nintendo" early in the film, and references to skateboarding. But this modern remake is true to the story and my kids were thrilled with the movie, asking to see it again and again and also asking Santa for their own copy.
A great family film !!!
this movie is very good ! i love watching all the t.v. shows with Lassie and i love watching Lassie save poples lives ! i think "Marge and Bob" should get a life.... Tom Guiry is a great actor. and he does a great job playing Matt in the movie. so if you have not seen this movie... I WOULD SEE IT !! its a great movie for all ages !
Great Family Film!!!
Im usually an action comedy movie guy, but I saw this along time ago and I watched it a fews ago. This is a great film for the family and worth buying.
This was taken from a five-part LASSIE TV story, the only Timmy episodes made in color, so occasionally the story is choppy, but in general this is an interesting adventure story about Timmy and Lassie surviving in the Canadian wilderness after being swept away in a runaway carnival balloon. I would give it a better rating but the copy they used to transfer this to DVD is HIDEOUS. Lots of blips, white spots, color washouts, and one part where you can actually see the film stall and sputter and then restart again. Evidently this was just a quicky transfer to DVD and nothing else. Pity, because it's an enjoyable story. Still recommended for Lassie fans. Walt Disney studios had previously adapted Sheila Burnford's classic animal-adventure novel The Incredible Journey in 1963, and the story proves just as durable in this popular 1993 version, in which the heroic trio of animals are given voices provided by Don Ameche, Michael J. Fox, and Sally Field. They don't actually speak (like the clever critters in Babe), but we hear their "voices" as the lost household pets--Shadow the golden retriever, Chance the bulldog, and Sassy the cat--survive a harrowing series of adventures as they struggle to find their way home. Perfect entertainment for kids, this frequently clever movie offers an abundance of wildlife and beautiful location scenery, and the vocal performances by Ameche, Fox, and Field are surprisingly effective. A hit with... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Duwayne Dunham DVD Release Date: Released the 12 December 2000 Usually ships in 24 hours

I have this story on video and was delighted to see it on DVD. In the two part title story, Timmy and Lassie befriend an elderly toy mender who agrees to help with a toys-for-sick-children project at the local hospital. Together the three of them decide to feed hungry forest animals during the holiday season--until wolves lured into the area by easy game start attacking farm animals. Great classic LASSIE story. A second story is included, "The Greatest Gift," which features forest ranger Corey Stuart. A young boy, troubled by his father being reported missing in action in Vietnam, is devastated to discover that the big spruce tree he and his dad used as "a meeting tree" on fishing expeditions is to be cut down for the National Christmas tree. These episodes have been restored and are also... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 23 December 2003 Usually ships within 24 hours
