Hi, I'm 13 years old! The reason I've said that I'm 12 is it doesn't go to my age! Anyway....................... Best Men is one of my favourite all time movies!!! I love the way it sought of tells the story of these young guys and a girl who is gonna marry one of them! Even though the rest of the characters were good, I absolutely fell in love with the character of Lt. John "Gonzo" Coleman! He's a character who's. .well, he's funny without meaning to be, if you know what I mean! If you like a film with boys, comedy, disgruntled soldiers, good soundtracks and a good script, this is the one for you!!!
Drew's in this movie, but barely...
I received this DVD as a gift. The person who bought this knows that I am absolutely NUTS over Drew Barrymore. Even thought Drew is on the cover her actual role in the movie is minor. Her role here is comparable to her role in "Donnie Darko." The movie does start off a bit tepid and ends with a punch. Watch and listen carefully for there are some shocking surprises. I will say that the movie is well made and engrossing. However, if you must buy this movie, buy it for the fun of watching it and not for solely for seeing Drew.
a Drew fan
I bought this movie because Drew Barrymore is in it and I'm collecting all her movies. I watched it for the first time today and to tell you the truth the end was a little to sad for what I thought it was gonna be. To quote the back of the movie: "Hope's (Barrymore) big mistake on her wedding day was sending the groomsmen to collect her jailbird fiance Jesse (Wilson) from Prison. For on the way from the penitentiary, the best man, Billy (Flanery), decides he needs a little cash infusion from the town bank...so he holds it up! But's it's not long before all of the groomsmen are held up - when the cops surround the place! And since neither hell nor high water will stop Hope from having her day...she rushes in to join her fugitive wedding party, at the risk of spending her honeymoon - not to mention the rest of her life- behind bars." It was a wonderful cast of Drew, Luke Wilson, Dean Cain, Andy Dick, Sean Patrick Flanery, and Mitchell Whitfield. A good description of this movie is a different kind of shotgun wedding.
I will be honest with you. I rented this movie for one reason, and one reason only.
I'm addicted to Sean Patrick Flanery.
There, I've said it. Granted, I had high hopes for this film, based on reviews I'd read, and the cast list. Kathy Najimy, Debbie Reynolds, and Michael Jeter have all been in films and/or television shows that I've enjoyed. I'd only seen Brittany Murphy once before and found her quite charming. Like I said, High Hopes...
So, I sat down and started to watch this movie, described to me as a quirky, off-beat comedy... The comedy was way past quirky. It was more the dark, morbid sort.
I've noticed that Sean Patrick Flanery has a knack for doing films about unusual relationships that appear doomed from the beginning, but somehow find a way to work. This one was no... Call it Buffy the Culinary Slayer. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who usually runs around staking vampires and fighting demons, turns cute and cuddly as an aspiring chef in this magical-realist comedy that borrows a page--heck, whole chapters--from Like Water for Chocolate. Out at the market one day, Gellar stumbles on both a magical crab and the babelicious Sean Patrick Flanery who, wouldn't you know it, is opening up a posh restaurant at Bendel's department store (actually, the two have been brought together by fairy godfather Christopher Durang). Odd and implausible circumstances give these two cuties more opportunities to moon at each other, and suddenly Gellar's cooking takes off--turns out all her nicey-nice feelings towards Flanery are going into her cooking, with the help of... I have probably spent more time on "Girl" than it warrants, just consider this a public service to prospective viewers who are unable to make head or tail out of the wide range of comments already posted. As to the quality of its adaptation from the novel, I won't go there because there is no purpose in "apples to oranges" comparisons and many others have relentlessly addressed the adaptation issue.
Bottom line the movie version of "Girl" is a mess-which can be guessed without even viewing. Made-for-cable movies back in 1998 were generally lousy and not the mix of quality that they are in 2005. Neither director Jonathan Kahn nor writer David Tolchinsky had done a feature before "Girl" and neither has done anything since 1998. Just do the math.
This movie surprized me being it was on a DVD by Good Times...usually they are not that clear and sometimes hard to understand but this is a shining example of how well they can do if they want...this DVD was super clear and the audio was super too. The only thing I wish is that for us harder of hearing folks that they would put the CC on the disc too.The movie it self is very good and I enjoyed the show alot. The acting was good and the story line was also very interesting as well. The animal actors did such a great job and as I said before the clarity of the DVD makes the scenery come alive in Alaska. I am glad I picked this one up and if you have kids there is also some good messages on convervation in it. I would buy it again now if I knew what I know now. At this price you owe it to...
