DVD Indecent Proposal
One of the biggest teases in film history, this film's sensational plot finds a young wife (Demi Moore) solicited for sex by a wealthy bachelor (Robert Redford), for which the latter offers to pay a cool million bucks to her and her underachieving husband (Woody Harrelson). The two accept Redford's deal, and their marriage is ruined. The twist in the film, though, is that the sin doesn't lie with the rich guy, but rather with this unfocused, immature, equivocating couple who would do such a thing, naively believing it would get their lives on track. Director Adrian Lyne, who caused an even greater stir by filming Lolita (the one starring Jeremy Irons), thus pulls a kind of thinking person's bait and switch, promising something tawdry and then turning the story around so its focus is on a rite of passage for the estranged spouses. Still, Lyne has some peculiarly garish ideas at times: the final disposition of that million dollars is like a joke out of Monty Python. --Tom Keogh
It's a cliche but also true. It's just like two best friends saying "we can sleep together and still be best friends and not ruin the friendship" It's naive. And this movie is more complicated than that, and it's about a wealthy businessman (Robert Redford) who makes an INDECENT PROPOSAL to a young poor couple (Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore) and it's an offer of one million dollars for one night with David's (Harrelson) wife (Moore) It's amazing what rich people do with their money, and even more so it's amazing what poor people will do for money. In this case, the couple believes they have it all figured out, no feelings, no mind no heart just her body, just sex, for the money they need for their future that could last a lifetime. And the saddest part is when David actually wakes up, and realized he made a terrible mistake and runs all over the hotel looking for her, and then off she goes in a helicopter with Mr. Wonderful. Right then and there you know what's going to happen later on. Bitter feelings, jealousy, guilt, and hating her for doing it when it's himself who he hates more for actually letting her do it. No man should ever sell his wife, for one night, for one minute it just isn't right even for all the money in the world if you love her, never let someone try to steal her for cash. It's sleezy no matter how you look at it. Demi Moore is absolutely gorgeous in this film. And there was excellent acting by her and woody, and this is a very romantic movie. A little sad here and there but a nice message about what money can do. They say money has power over people, it's evil, and greed will always get you the short end of the stick no matter what. And even doing the wrong thing for the right reason doesnt mean it will turn out ok.
A movie with a big name cast that actually works
Usually, when a movie has a bunch of big names (that brings with it a very overinflated budget and a beyond crappy storyline), you know it's bound to suck. That wasn't the case with Indecent Proposal.
Sure, the plot became the favorite punchline of every comedian - professional and amateur - in the country but it also managed to stir up discussion among the fiscally conservative (meaning broke) portion of the population: Would you have a one-night stand with a wealthy person, or anyone who was offering you money, in order to make ends meet? (In other words, would you be a temporary hooker?)
Okay, the majority of us will never meet a billionaire or even a millionaire (who is single!) in a casino who will be bowled over by our movie-star looks but if you were on hard times, would you do it for the money? (You can hear the bill collectors right now pushing you, "Say yes! Say yes!")
Robert Redford, for all the age cracks, is a damn good actor (and better looking than these dorks half his age). Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore had great chemistry between them to really carry the movie and make it an enjoyable viewing experience.
A big-name movie that one can watch over and over.
about the movie indecent proposal.......
This story is basically talking about the newspaper outbreak about marriage infidelity (between a married man and a married woman). For those whom cannot cupcake regarding the subject (especially the chinese), do control your temper with people whom are buying these titles as most of the people are now English educated. A recommendation for those whom are interested in this genre of movie/film. Enjoy.....
The date movie of the late 1980s, this had everyone arguing in the aisles. Does Michael Douglas deserve the unwanted attention he and his family are receiving at the hands of loony stalker Glenn Close? After a weekend extramarital affair with colleague Close, he returns home to wife Anne Archer, and Close becomes progressively angrier. You might even say she is boiling bunny mad.
Directed by Adrian Lyne, this is not your average thriller, as it garnered six Academy Award nominations. The plot is too obvious, but the dialogue rings true and the intense performances hold the story together. Anne Archer deserves kudos for side-stepping cliché as the strong but frightened wife, and Close is a scream as she chews up the scenery.
Michael Crichton's bestselling novel was both a high-tech thriller and source of controversy with its hot-button plot about a man's charge of sexual harassment against a female colleague and former lover. The movie, directed by Barry Levinson, turned these issues into a prurient thriller gussied up in glossy production values, virtual reality computer graphics, and steamy sex between Michael Douglas and Demi Moore. Having cornered the market on roles for men whose brains are located south of their waistline, Douglas is well cast as the computer-industry guy who loses a plush promotion to the opportunistic Moore, and he's perfected the expression of paranoid panic. If you don't think about it too much, this is one of those films that can draw you into its manipulative web and really grab... One of the greatest of thrillers, this film throws it all overboard for a 'shock' ending. After two hours of mounting tension based firmly on an 'innocent but complex' character reading of the two main characters, the ending reveals that the villain was guilty after all. The psycho killer made fools of us as well as of the cop. It's really been two hours of the swamp monster kills again straight out of z grade movie history and as boring as could be. To compromise your audience like this is, hey, maybe avant garde, guying the thriller conventions and audiences' implicit sadism in watching this kind of stuff. But the film made a lot of money, so I guess the film maker is just showing contempt for his audience after all. Roll up, roll up, and be exploited. And it could have been so good. Here's a classic Hollywood star vehicle. Up Close and Personal--the story of Tally Atwater (Michelle Pfeiffer), an inexperienced but ambitious TV news personality, and her well-weathered journalistic mentor, Warren Justice (Robert Redford)--was carefully tailored to fit its stars. What began as a screenplay based on the biography of troubled TV anchorwoman Jessica Savitch (Golden Girl, by Alanna Nash) took more than eight years to reach the screen, written and rewritten, on and off, over the years by husband-and-wife team John Gregory Dunne and Joan Didion, mainly because they needed the work to qualify for the splendid Writers' Guild health-insurance plan. Although the considerable charisma of Pfeiffer and Redford go a long way, in many respects Nash's original nonfiction... This horrible misfire from the usually reliable writer-director Andrew Bergman (The Freshman) has nothing funny, provocative, timely, or interesting to say (despite being based on a novel by Carl Hiaasen) once Demi Moore gets her clothes off. Moore plays a single, unemployed mom caught up in a custody battle who elects to make some money by stripping at a club. The character's troubles don't end there, however: Her ex-husband is posing a threat, and a perverted congressman (Burt Reynolds) is looking for more than a lap dance. Bergman's great wit is nowhere in sight, and the film primarily becomes another opportunity for Moore to function like a special effect. The unrated video version of the film includes two minutes of footage not seen in the theatrical release. --Tom KeoghMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Demi Moore - Burt Reynolds Director(s): Andrew Bergman DVD Release Date: Released the 27 July 1999 Usually ships in 24 hours
