Review(s): DVD Ultimate Beginner Series - Electric Guitar Basics
very good
I got this dvd when I purchased my guitar, and it really helped me out, by teaching me the simplist thing such as stringing a guitar, reading tabs etc. Then, later on after I was more experienced I went back and learned some of the soloing and improvisational techniques. Very good start.

This is an exceptionally well-produced information-filled beginner course. The practice tracks (complete with looping feature) are exceptionally helpful at getting the beginner playing. Even though I've moved beyond this course, I still use the practice tracks for warming up and keeping me refreshed on the chords I learned from this DVD. I want to echo the positive comments made about Keith Wyatt. He manages to convey a sense that "you can do this." With the confdence that this DVD helped give me I've been playing for four months now and I am comfortable enough to actually play some simple rhythm guitar parts for my church band. After a month or six weeks the "Getting Started" DVD course does start to feel limiting. At 6 weeks I added the E-media Beginner Guitar course to my... This DVD isn't very informative. What he teaches he teaches fairly well, but he doesnt teach you much. You can play all the riffs he teaches you and you still won't know how to play guitar. The other amazon reviews are obviously writen by the makers of the product as they are actually listed on the back of the dvd. What kind of DVD lists customer reviews from amazon on their product. Aside from that they sound pretty bogus. More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 05 November 2002 Usually ships within 24 hours

I've been playing guitar for many years and I'm almost totally self-taught (folk, classical, a tiny bit of jazz and some rock). I picked up this DVD just for kicks to see what I could learn. Turns out I'm learning a lot. Working through the DVD is strengthening the other playing that I do.
Features I especially like: songs all written by to demonstrate the techniques he's teaching, some variety in song style, some basic theory taught between the songs, songs played at both full speed and slower speed, split screen showing both left and right hands on the slower version, printed notes that go along with the ten songs.
Criticisms: too much volume difference between Paul's speaking voice and his guitar - get it right for his voice and the guitar's too loud. ... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 05 November 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

I decided to "try" guitar, and of course found the "guitar for dummies" DVD. The narrator covers the basics, and has you playing a sond within minutes. "Fara jaqua" isn't the coolest song, but it's something. The chords are displayed on the screen, and he goes slow enough to follow. This really is a good beginners guide to guitar.....Good luck and enjoy! I bought this because others commented about how easily they could follow Dan. Not true! His lessons were way too fast and on top of that, he has an annoying personality. If you're a true beginner, this cd is NOT for you. More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 05 November 2002 Usually ships in 13 to 14 days
