Review(s): DVD Walk Away the Pounds 2-Pack: Super Fat Burning + Get Up and Get Started High Calorie Burn
Chip girl's thoughts
This set is one of Leslie's best. I've recommened to several friends. She has you use weights and it's all a great pace. One of her best.
Accessible, yet challenging workout regime
Summary
Here's my short take on WATP, read further below for my personal experience.
Buy WATP if...
*you hate exercising and have trouble committing to a program or even starting (WATP truly removes most any barrier)
*you want a regime that will give you a healthy amount of exercise, covering cardio & some modest weight training
*you need a range of workouts to fit your schedule (1, 2, 3 mile)
*you want a regime that you customize to make easier or more difficult (more about this in the personal experience)
*you don't want to deal with the outside world when you exercise (this was important to me personally)
Don't buy WATP if...
*you want carved muscles & a workout that will have you crying (this isn't to say that WATP is easy, it just won't create any muscle-bound warriors)
My barriers to exercise
Growing up I was very competitive in sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball, track). After school, however, I couldn't find any exercise that I could maintain over time. I tried jogging, joining a gym, buying an elliptical, walking outside, and nothing stuck but the pounds. Apparently, I have trouble exercising when not competing.
Plus, I hate exercising in public and the tediousness of choosing what to wear in public when exercise clothes seem designed to create folds of flesh and pockets of flub.
Body type & ongoing exercise status
My body type & stats are 5', 124 lbs, BMI in the upper, upper part of the healthy range, carry all my weight in the hips, thighs & rear-classic hourglass figure.
My exercise regime is not solid, but sporadic elliptical, jogging & walking, & I always take the stairs & go on long walks (not in exercise clothes!)
Exercise goals
*Maintain healthy lifestyle (i.e. find an exercise regime that I can adhere to over time, that doesn't make me dread doing it)
*Lose the ten vanity pounds I've put on so I can fit into my favorite clothes once again
What drew me to WATP: overwhelmingly positive reviews & low entry price
After doing some research and reading many positive reviews (one of the most valuable being www.consumersearch.com), I stumbled across the "Walk Away the Pounds" videos. They looked very cheesy, but at the low entry price of $18.71 for 3 workouts (1, 2, & 3 mile), I figured I could try it. Especially, after spending far more on an elliptical & gym membership!
My experiences so far with the system
I've been using the dvd's for about 2 1/2 months now. I started by using the 1 mile, 5 days a week. I quickly moved up to alternating the 2 mile (MWF) with the 1 mile (TTh). About a month in, I moved up to the 3 mile and now alternate that with the 2 mile, 5 days a week.
Important note: I have never exercised 5 days a week in my life--why did this happen? I think it works because you can tinker with the workout. You can up the intensity by using the weights for longer than she does or using 3 lbs instead of 2, etc. Alternatively, you can back off the weights or drop them altogether. ([...]). The point is you still exercise.
I've lost 5 pounds, and that's from being at a plateau. My clothes fit much better and pants that I bought a few months ago hang off my body. My arm muscles are much more toned & the bathing suit fits better.
My next step is to buy the Walk & Jog so I can introduce interval training for that last 5 lbs!
Leslie & her entourage
Sure, they're very cheesy, but I actually like them. They are very sweet and just happen to have very cheerful dispositions (probably why they were chosen). When I get sick of them, I've found it helps to set up a mirror and focus on your own positions & not look at the picture box (this is easy after doing them a few times).
The Best At Home Workout Ever!
I am 38 years old and I am obese. There is no denying the truth. For a long time I searched for exercise DVDs so that I could workout at home. I had to eliminate all excuses not to exercise.
1 mile program is very easy. Even if you have been a couch potato all your life, you can master this in no time. I do enjoy the 2 mile walk because, it takes about a half hour which is perfect for me. Sometimes when I feel a little more energetic, I do the 3 mile program. For me it is still a challenge.
I tried other DVDs as well but they are usually very difficult to keep up with. Even some of Leslie Sansone's other programs are like that. I own another set which really leaves me breathless.
I actually bought this set twice. A co-worker had borrowed them and never bothered to return them back. What made me real upset is, I just do not remember who had borrowed them. I have sent e-mails to all possible co-workers and none of them came back to me and returned my DVDs. I guess, she liked them so much that she decided never to return them...
Some people criticize that she makes religion related comments but even though, I am Muslim, that did not bother me at all because, her remarks are generally very universal and is true for every religion where people believe there is only one GOD. She is quite a chatter-box and that makes the program go fast. If you get tired of hearing the same stuff, just put on some other music that you like.
I am very very happy with this set and excuse me but, no you cannot borrow it:)

I have a big "bunch" of Leslie Sansone's tapes (mostly on VHS because I can skim through the introductions and get right to the workout), but the "Walk Away the Pounds Express" series is my absolute favorite. I have the 1, 2, 3 and 4 mile tapes, and use them all often.
I may be marching in my living room all alone, but I never feel like I am really alone when I'm exercising with this series. I've gotten to know all of Leslie's "Walking Buddies" by name, and I feel like I am right there with them. As other reviewers have already stated, anyone can do these workout, no matter how much they weigh, or how old they are. I like the fact that the walkers in the video are all different shapes and sizes and ages, and look like they feel good about themselves--self-esteem is a big... I'm a regular exerciser, and I've always viewed Leslie Sansone as being more for beginners. I do have one of her other videos, WATP for Abs, 3 Miles, that I like to use when I want a longer, lower intensity, "no-brainer" workout, but I wasn't sure if Leslie could produce a shorter routine that would still provide the intensity I'd want. After reading so many great reviews of Walk and Jog, I decided to take a chance on it, and I'm so glad that I did!
Walk and Jog is basically an interval workout in which Leslie alternates segments of her traditional walking moves with gentle jogging. The workout begins with about a 6-minute warm-up which quickly got my heart rate into my target zone and kept it there. Leslie then introduces the intervals, first by upping the pace of the... I did this DVD for the first time this morning, and it was lots of fun. I wasn't in the mood to pay attention to choreography but I wanted to get some exercise and give something new a try. "Walk and Kick" fit the bill. It's not overly strenuous, the moves are simple, the instructor is very personable and the time just flies by. I like the music, too! I have the four-mile "Super Challenge" DVD, as well, and that's another goodie for this kind of exercise mood - if you have a little more time. I'll be using the both of them repeatedly. I am very pleased with my order however I did not recieve the bands that were said to come with it. Walk away the Pounds for abs was recomended by a friend because of the bands that make the work-out more intense.
