  • DVD Joshua

The world can be divided into two camps: those who will watch Joshua reverently and gratefully, and those who will not touch it with a 10-foot pole. The reverent probably own Joseph F. Girzone's bestselling novel about a mysterious but friendly loner who shows up in a small American town and blesses every life he touches. Whites and blacks, Catholics, Protestants, and Jews will work side by side as newly recognized brethren; an estranged couple will resolve to save their marriage; the lonely and disconnected will embrace and be embraced by community; etc. The message--the healing power of Christ's love--is beyond reproach, the intentions of the filmmakers entirely benign, but there is not one whit of dramatic tension or narrative complication to any of it. The cast is stronger than usual in such religious projects (Tony Goldwyn, Oscar® winner F. Murray Abraham, Giancarlo Giannini as the Pope), but no one has a prayer with a script that posits the hero's Christhood on the fact that 12 people show up for his going-away dinner. --Richard T. Review(s): DVD Joshua
    Oh My - Goshua!

You've got to be kidding me, with all the great reviews for this movie! I've never seen a movie trying so hard to be liked! I liked this actor better in the movie Ghost, than this flop. I guess you have to be very religious to like this film, I thought it was corny. And why wasn't this movie in widescreen, it only came out three years ago.

A LITTLE FILM WITH A BIG MESSAGE

I don't care what anyone says, this is a great little film. It's one of the only movies that adequately depict Christ as a living, moving, FEELING human being. Now, granted, the production values are modest (to match the budget), and the script is lightweight. Okay, some of the acting is marginal, and the directing fairly straightforward. And, the photography is made-for-TV quality. Still, it's a breath of fresh air, and a nice change from the typically stale, cliché-ridden, formulaic Hollywoodland fare.

It's a little film - I would actually only give it three stars in hindsight - but it has a lot of heart, especially revealed in the performance by Tony Goldwyn in the title role. Goldwyn hasn't got a lot to work with script-wise, but he still gives us a very touching, believable rendition of a modern-day Christ. He's earthy, amiable, vulnerable, witty, tender, and - at times - powerful, reminding me of his work in another little film, The Boys Next Door. I really feel these are the types of roles Goldwyn was made for, as opposed to his better-known villains (Ghost, Pelican Brief, Kiss the Girls, The 6th Day, Last Samurai). He's got heart, and it only seems to come out in these more pathos-filled characters.

Kurt Fuller also brings wit, vulnerability and a likeable everyman feel to his character as the priest that becomes Joshua's best friend. Together they try to impact a small, non-descript American town so that the residents become involved in each other's lives and begin caring for one another. They find themselves at an impasse with the priest's superior, played by F. Murray Abraham, who sees Joshua as a threat to his authority, and eventually drags him to Rome to stand before the Pope, played by Giancarlo Giannini. This is a Catholic-supported film, based on the novel by Joseph Girzone, with a message that is universal: love God and love your neighbor as yourself. This may not be Oscar material, but it certainly will find a place in most hearts.

Not compatible with Jesus Christ from the Bible

I realize several reviwers stated that this movie was inspirational and made them "feel good". However, the character of "Joshua", who is very apprently designed to represent Jesus Christ, is not compatible with the Bible description of Jesus Christ at all.

Jesus did not come to earth to preach or promote "acceptance" (John 8:24) or to make people "feel good" (Matt. 10:34). And to those viewers who think it remotely possible that if Jesus Christ came to earth (and He will come!) He would have an audience with and BOW TO the pope, I strongly suggest reviewing the Ten Commandments and Rev. 19:10 and 22:9.

Over all, I would say the movie is nothing but clear blasphemy.

    Time Changer DVD

Time Changer may be a little strident in its core message (i.e., ethics don't count unless they're backed by the force of Christ), but as an above-average feature for the Christian market, it's pretty agreeable. D. David Morin stars as a late-19th-century Bible professor named Carlisle, whose efforts to publish a book arguing that morals can be taught independent of Christ's teachings is denounced by one Dr. Anderson (Gavin Macleod), a board member at Carlisle's seminary. Anderson, who happens to be in possession of a time machine, sends Carlisle to the year 2001, where the latter quickly discovers the pitfalls of a secular world with relative morality and no absolute (i.e., Christian) standards. Time Changer's seasoned supporting cast, including Paul Rodriguez, Jennifer... More Info about this DVD

    Six:Mark Unleashed DVD

The sign of the times are all present and sooner or later the world dictator will make his debut onto the world scene. The movie "Six" even though it is a movie is a close representation of what it will be like in a couple of years. Six talks about the Tribulation time in where all people on this earth will have to use a mark on there right hand or forehead in order to buy and sell anything in the market. The cash society will be non-existent. This is a great movie for the Christian person and for the person who does not know Jesus Christ and who wants to, who wants to change to the Christian Religion. People laugh at this time from ever occurring but if you look at the news things are going on which only indicate that the Lord will be coming soon.
Pray alot, and hope to get... More Info about this DVD

The Moment After - DVD DVD

Moment After is a likeable film that dramatizes some key notions about life on earth after Christians are suddenly taken away. Friends of Christians sometimes convert, while many that had enjoyed the Christian culture, but never truly accepted the faith, fall away. The societal transformation from democracy, to martial law, to global totalitarianism is portrayed as a progression that will happen most natural. Also, the "why did this happen?" question gets answered in typical government fashion: We're investigating, we're looking into it, we're researching all possiblities, and finally, once people tire of the search...there is no answer--but it's time to move on. It all happens quite believably.

Concerning acting and effects--the movie crosses the threshold from being... More Info about this DVD

Megiddo - Omega Code 2 DVD

I watched this after renting the Omega code 1 and this film is a prequel and a sequel to that movie at the same time.

It tells the story of how Stone got to become the Beast himself (generally a down hill slide since he was pissed off at the death of his mother giving birth to his younger brother- I guess you have the choice of going to therapy or becoming the Prince of Darkness - Stone chooses the second)

There is a love triangle thrown in for good measure between Stone and his brother David and Gabriella (as in the angel Gabriel, get it?)

To try and some up the dizzying plotline in a pragraph would be tough, but it's basically about the Devil wanting to take over the world through the construction of a world union that gives him all the power - all... More Info about this DVD
