  • DVD Unfaithful (Widescreen Edition)

If you ever need dramatic proof that adultery is inevitably destructive, look no further than Adrian Lyne's Unfaithful. Drawing inspiration from Claude Chabrol's 1969 film La Femme Infidèle, the director of Fatal Attraction is mining similar territory here, but this grownup thriller is more intimate than Lyne's dead-bunny potboiler, probing more deeply into the rush of conflicting emotions provoked by infidelity. In what many critics praised as the role of her career, Diane Lane plays the instigator of emotional turmoil, a seemingly happy housewife and fundraiser who cheats on her devoted husband (Richard Gere, in a welcomed change of pace) when she casually encounters a seductive Frenchman (cliché alert!) played by Olivier Martinez. Allowing his actors to speak volumes without words, Lyne emphasizes silent tension over explicit thrills, creating a sexually charged thriller that remains riveting even as it turns partially predictable. "Someone always gets hurt," says one character in a pivotal scene, and Unfaithful fulfills that prophesy in a timeless tale of passion. --Jeff Shannon

There Is No Such Thing As A Mistake!

Edward and Connie Sumner (Richard Gere, Diane Lane) have the perfect life: a happy marriage, an eight-year-old son, and a beautiful house in the suburbs. But when Connie's chance encounter with a handsome stranger (Olivier Martinez) erupts into a full-blown affair, desire becomes obsession, and the true price of betrayal takes a shattering toll.

This disc comes with a nice collection of special features.... most notably, two audio commentaries. The first commentary features director Adrian Lyne, and is very good. Lyne analyses topics such as the story design, the actor's chemistry, and the basic making-of theories. This commentary is better then most, and should be enjoyed by film enthusiasts. The second features scene specific commentaries with Diane Lane and Oliver Martinez. This commentary is pretty good, but it does not do into the depth that the directors commentary does.

The 11 deleted scenes that are included on this disc all come with optional directors commentary. These scenes are all very good in their own sense, and could have fit nicely into the final cut of the film. The commentary is pretty good, giving some direction on why the sequences were cut or altered.

The 16 minute making-of featurette is better then the average. The films story, acting, chemistry, and direction are all discussed in quality interviews and sequences. This featurette is not overly fluffy, but rather educational and entertaining.

Lastly, you will find a good editing featurette that discusses how certain sequences were cut together, a few theatrical trailers, a Charlie Rose interview with Diane Lane, Richard Gere and Adrian Lyne, three theatrical trailers, and script notes.

This film shows the reality behind infidelity. The story is not perfect, and is not wonderfully entertaining, but the acting was suburb. This DVD does a nice job, through audio/video quality and good extras, of creating a good viewing experience on DVD. This disc is worth buying out.

    Lovers "Lane".

Overall it's an interesting and steamy film that shows the possible consequences of an affair. To my point, I'd almost give this 5 stars just for Diane Lane. This movie confirmed my thoughts that she is one of the hottest women on the planet, and whether you watch "Unfaithful" for her amazing acting or body, it's a must for fans of hers.

    Can you blame her???

Definitely a great acting crew. I'll have to say that I did and did not like this movie. I enjoyed it because there was great suspense as well as some great scenes of wild passion in the beginning. Olivier Martinez was HOT in this movie. One simply cannot blame Diane Lane's character for falling for him. Infidelity... whether good or bad... the guy was just simply irresitable!
With that said, the first part of the movie had much more action, suspense, and seemed to make alot more sense.

Once Richard Gere's character murdered his wife's lover, the movie became a completely different movie, and became ludicrous. One minute you are watching this steamy, hot and heavy affair-- the next minute your are watching this serious murder cover-up drama. Oliver Martinez goes from being a hot young sexy gigolo, to this heavy, lifeless corpse hanging over Richard Gere's shoulder. The corpse then ends up in several different places including the trunk of Richard Gere's Mercedes as he speeds off to see his young child's school play, as well as a Westchester County dump, while Westchester County police is constantly on the married couple's doorstep.

I as a viewer, I became quite simply annoyed and completely turned off as a result of the drastic change. Not a smooth transition at all.

A good movie at first, but an unsettled ending.

    Monster's Ball DVD

The unflinching realism and searing performances of Monster's Ball are stunning in all the connotations of the word. Hank (Billy Bob Thornton) and Leticia (Halle Berry) inhabit stark, queasy realities of the contemporary South, he as a death row corrections officer and she as the soon-to-be widow of an inmate (Sean Combs) whose execution Hank helps conduct. In the aftermath of the execution, both lose their children to tragic deaths and they form an unlikely bond. In the hands of lesser participants, the fateful plot might strain credibility and seem tailored to allow for liberal sermonizing about the obvious wrongs of our legal justice system, but director Marc Forster and cinematographer Roberto Schaefer balance the contentious nature of the film's issues--the death penalty,... A Walk on the Moon DVD

Although its tale of marital crisis unfolds a bit too cleanly, A Walk on the Moon--which was coproduced by Dustin Hoffman--offers a welcome relief from the juvenile assault of skull-throbbing blockbusters. The story is gently involving, the characters are authentic, and, best of all, Diane Lane is given a chance to show why she's one of the most genuine and underrated actresses of her generation. Here she plays Pearl Kantrowitz, a devoted housewife on a routine vacation in the Catskills with her TV repairman husband Marty (Liev Schreiber), 14-year-old daughter (Anna Paquin), and rambunctious younger son (Tovah Feldshuh).

It's the summer of 1969. Neil Armstrong has made his "one small step for man," Woodstock is about to happen nearby (leading to a barely plausible dramatic... More Info about this DVD

    Original Sin (Unrated Version) DVD

Original Sin belongs in the "so bad it's good" category of languid potboilers, offering enough nudity, sexual chemistry, and far-fetched plotting to make it an enjoyable lazy-day diversion. Based on Cornell Woolrich's novel Waltz into Darkness (previous filmed by François Truffaut as Mississippi Mermaid) and set in turn-of-the-century Cuba, the film traces a tailspin of amorous obsession when coffee plantation owner Luis (Antonio Banderas) discovers that his American mail-order bride (Angelina Jolie) is not the plain wife he'd expected, but a beautiful, scheming thief who's after his fortune. The movie asserts that love is truly blind, but absurd twists of plot make Luis appear more stupid than passionate. Writer-director Michael Cristofer fared better with... More Info about this DVD

    Swimming Pool (Unrated Version) DVD

In terms of alluring female nudity, Swimming Pool shows a lot, but it's what remains concealed that gives this erotic thriller a potent, voyeuristic charge. With his Hitchcockian handling of secrets and lies, prolific French director François Ozon reunites with his Under the Sand star, Charlotte Rampling, to tell a seductive tale of murder and complicity, beginning when British mystery novelist Sarah Morton (Rampling) seeks peace and relaxation at her publisher's French villa, only to find his brash, sexually liberated daughter Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) arriving shortly thereafter to disrupt her solitary reverie. What begins as mutual annoyance turns into something more sinister and duplicitous, alternating between Julie's predatory sex with men and Sarah's observant,... More Info about this DVD

Under the Tuscan Sun (Widescreen Edition) DVD

Though she made her first movie at the age of 13, Diane Lane has only blossomed into a true star in her 30s, and Under the Tuscan Sun marks her full flowering. After a brutal divorce, Frances (Lane, Unfaithful, A Walk on the Moon) is persuaded by her friend Patti (Sandra Oh) to take a tour of Italy--where, on a whim that she hopes will rescue her from her desperate unhappiness, she buys a rundown villa and sets out to renovate it. Along the way, she gets advice from a former Fellini actress, meets a scrumptious Italian lover, and helps support Patti after her own relationship derails. The conclusion of Under the Tuscan Sun holds no surprises, but the deft turns and observations along the way are delightful. Lane carries the film effortlessly but surely, exuding...
