So does Glen Gordon as 50's TV's deliciously nefarious incarnation of Sax Rohmer's icon of Evilll...Dr. Fu Manchu. Ian Fleming's Dr. No was Fu-ster reborn to face-off against 007. Here Sir Denis Nayland Smith and his Yankee buddy,Dr.John Petrie, reprise Rohmer's reprise of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to keep the never-ending battle between Good & Evil never-ending.The disc provides four outrageous Saturday matinee, serial-like adventures that demonstrate how Olden Days TV could do so much with so little. THE MASTER PLAN is best serving; and example of audacity no modern or PM director would dare: revival of Adolf Hitler himself.(Shades of Outer Limits/Twilight Zone & the FuMANCHURIAN CANDIDATE!)Are these ADVENTURES great? Is Elvis King & Little Richard Queen of Rock'n'Roll? The question is moot. THE ADVENTURES of FU MANCHU is cream of TV's corn on the cob. The Chess Game Opening ("Black & White...Life & Death"...Good's Pawn to Fu's Wicked King's 4...)is worth price of the disc as one of the all time teaser TEASERS. For fans of fiendish 50's TV,don't let them Fu you: this is(almost)classy stuff.
If you like cheese....
I thought this was a pretty good series from the waning days of Republic Pictures. I enjoyed Glen Gordon's portrayal of Fu. Somewhat over-the-top. I liked it.
This will have to do for now...
Here we are presented with several episodes revolving around the infamous Fu Manchu. Considering the age of the show the picture quality is quite good and the plots are serviceable, but as has been pointed out before, anyone expecting to recognize the Fu Manchu of literature will be sadly dissapointed. Hopefully, one day soon we will see the series of Fu Manchu movies made in the 1960s find their way onto DVD, Based on the actual books and given a decent budget those features would easily find a way into my collection.
Sax Rohmer (1883-1859) was among the most popular novelists of the early 20th Century. He was particularly well known for his creation of the character Fu Manchu--a truly diabolical Chinese scientist who, along with his equally evil daughter Fa Lo See, sought world domination through the most vicious means possible. In the process, Rohmer virtually created the idea of "the yellow peril" in the American and European mind, and his distinctly racist characterizations would color Western concepts of the far East for half a century.
Rohmer's Fu Manchu has reached the screen on several occasions, perhaps most notably in an unexpectedly sadistic 1932 THE MASK OF FU MANCHU, starring Boris Karloff and Myrna Loy. The 1940 serial was directed by Republic Studio's reliable team of John... The villainous Fu Manchu is back, and he has a nefarious plot to rule the world involving...making ice? Oh geez...
Jesus 'Jess' Franco, Master of the Unnecessary Close Up, not to mention also being the Master of the Useless Zoom In/Zoom Out, and Master of the Pointless Pan Shot, directed this mess of a movie. Christopher Lee reprises his role from the early Blood of Fu Manchu (1968), along with Richard Greene as Denis Nayland-Smith, Howard Marion Crawford as Dr. Petrie, and Tsai Chin as Fu Manchu's daughter, Lin Tang. As sequels go, this one certainly follows the pattern of sequels, not being as good as the original, but given that the first movie wasn't really all that great, the fact that this one was so much worse really surprised me.
Fu Manchu is back and has some kind of process... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Jesus Franco DVD Release Date: Released the 30 September 2003 Usually ships within 24 hours

Jon Hall stars as Dr. Tom Reynolds, or "Ramar" in this jungle adventure series set in Africa and, later, India. The series ran 52 episodes over a two year period from 1952 to 1954 and was broadcast well into the 1960s in syndication. The stock scenes of wildlife were good, but didn't always mesh well with scenes set in obvious studio "jungles." Besides Hall, also in the weekly cast were Ray Montgomery as Professor Howard Ogden and Nick Stewart as their native guide, Willy-Willy. Look for Woody (billed as "Woodrow") Strode in two of the four episodes on this DVD.
Alpha Video's DVD presentation is reasonably good, considering the age of the broadcasts; video contrast is, for the most part, good and the audio is clear throughout all four episodes. The show isn't great, but it's enjoyable...
