Julie Andrews And A Touching Christmas Story; The Perfect Combination
I only came across this beautiful little television movie a few months ago but after a viewing last week I can honestly say it's a pleasure to welcome Julie Andrews back in the kind of acting vehicle which suits her perfectly. Reteamed with veteran actor James Garner for the third time this pair of experienced movie pros work wonders with a touching and quite thought provoking story about loss in its many forms and how different people tend to handle it. Filmed in a chilly Montreal "One Special Night", takes us into the lives of two very different people who's lives have taken some unexpected turns for the worse and how during the lead up to the Christmas season these two individuals happen to find not only each other but also themselves at the same time. Romance between two older people hasn't been portrayed on screen as well in a long time and Julie Andrews and James Garner display that wonderful chemistry that they enjoyed together so well in their earlier teamings in "The Amercianization of Emily" and in "Victor/Victoria".

This is a "keeper". I've watched it three or four times and enjoyed it each time. I wish there were more movies like this to watch. The actors were superb and the scenery was just beautiful.
I just love this movie. I saw it first on the Hallmark Channel when I was channel surfing, then I purchased the DVD. Each time I've watched it, I find I like it more and more. However, I would have loved to have seen more story/character development and a little more romance, perhaps even a wedding between Tyler & Jordan (reason for 4 & not 5 stars). For instance, the scene outside the barn after Tyler has turned away & ran from Jordan, he says ".. I never expected this" It's not clear at first exactly what it is he wasn't expecting. You realize later that he never expected to fall in love with her. Would be great if a sequel follows!??? More Info about this DVD Director(s): David S. I love Christmas Movies and I also love to read romance books and this movie is based on a Christmas themed romance book called A Christmas Love by Kathleen Creighton though the title of the movie was changed to A Holiday to Remember. I have the book this movie was based on but haven't read it yet but I did peek at a couple of pages in the book and it looks like Carolyn and Clay didn't know each other in the book until they were adults but they changed it in this movie that they had known each other in their past and were getting married after they had finished high school but she jilted him and left him standing at the alter. Though I didn't read the book except to peek at a couple of pages and I can't really compare them I can say that the movie was good and the acting was very good... Director Martin Ritt (Norma Rae) helmed this offbeat romance that earned costar James Garner an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a widowed druggist who befriends a confused divorcee (Sally Field) and her son, who move to a small rural town to start over. The laid-back performance of Garner as a man finding love "for the last time in his life" contrasts wonderfully with Field's portrayal of a woman scared and unsure of what the future may hold for her, and the two of them together exhibit great comic timing.
