  • DVD Andromeda Season 2 Collection 1 (Episode 201-205)

The second season of Andromeda unveils a change in approach. A new traditionally heroic title theme, accompanied by rousing voice-over, is one noticeable difference. Another is Kevin Sorbo's even shorter haircut! But it's back to the gore and violence that marked the cliffhanging finale of the first year with "The Widening Gyre," in which many perils are resolved while others are revealed. An all-too-short deadline is also imposed on Dylan's Commonwealth dream (confirming the show's additional two-season renewal), when it's confirmed how long it will be before the traveling Magog arrive. "Exit Strategies" is all about inner demons. Poor Harper is left with a very real internal problem that leads him to contemplate the unthinkable. Rommie is wrestling with an alternate physical self. Rev is battling his religious conscience against his very survival. With so much B-plot, you could almost overlook the main story that sees the Maru crash land on an ice world--if the dazzling FX would let you, that is.

Beka gets an overdue share of romantic attention in "A Heart for Falsehood Framed." A sacred gem is the nub of a diplomatic dispute. In typically unpredictable fashion, the plot contrives to see all interested parties caught up in a multi-layered game of switching fakes. Some new angles appear in "Pitiless as the Sun". In case anyone's forgotten, Trance is given opportunity to thicken the mystery surrounding exactly what she is. This occurs as we meet a brand-new adversary, the unsavory Pyrians. Xenophobia, drug addiction, and slavery are all scrutinized in this episode--enough plot for an X-File. Which is funny since Cigarette-Smoking Man William B. Davis guest stars. Hunting for a once-glorious leader who would benefit Dylan's cause, the Maru and crew make a "Last Call at the Broken Hammer," a run-down bar in the middle of a wasteland. There are lots of twists in a mystery of hidden identities and agendas amongst the bar's patrons. Watch out for Gordon Woolvett's real-life wife among them. Another welcome sight in this episode is a change of wardrobe for the regulars, who have been sweating it out in the same gear for far too long. --Paul Tonks

OVERCHARGE - Shame on you guys!!!!

I would have purchased the entire series except that someone is overcharging. $60+ plus for Season 1 was too high, but I was willing to pay.

WILL NOT buy any more of this series. Fun series, but someone's ripping off the buyers.

I'll find something else to buy.

Beware of Packaging is an understatement

I certainly agree with Elk Grove Village. I'm still trying to figure out what to order. As a fan, couldn't they just sell the entire season like they do with the Star Trek series? I got a whole season of Star Trek (26 episodes) for $100 and only 22 episodes of Andromeda for about $180 and I didn't buy any duplicates. Let's just make it simple, Okay? And maybe drop the price some, Huh?

    The best continues!!!

I have seen all these episodes and they are great. My fav is "The Widening Gyre", because it shows a much darker side to the show and to Rev Bem (aka Redplague). I also like "Pitiless as the Sun" because it shows that Trance and her species are much more dangerous than they seem. I also like this episode because it was broadcast on my birthday. The two regrets I have are as follows: "The March of the High Guard" theme composed by Alex Lifeson is no longer in use for the show and also that so many of the cool extras are gone (Examples: the timeline of the commonwealth and all systems university 101). All in all though, this is a great show and I'm a huge sci-fi fan so I'll will definetly buy this DVD, and if you like sci-fi you should too. You won't regret it.

Andromeda Season 2 Collection 5 DVD

I never took the Andromeda series very seriously, even though I'm an avid Trek fan. Watching one every now and then but not being very entertained. Getting over the captain is not easy for most people and it's what turned me off to the show as well. It was this disk that made me take a second look at the series as a whole.

"Tunnel At The End Of The Light" is a slight rip-off of Predator, but hardly a bad one. And by the end, it's taken in a very original direction. If you can get over Sorbo and be entertained by a decent "space-show", Andromeda may be for you. Harper gives excellent comic relief and Rommie is just friggin sexy. The stories are not bad once you give them a chance, and for the most part, original. Graphics are fantastic, even if they are re-used and altered from time to... More Info about this DVD

I think it is amazing the amazon can't seem to get this right. Is it collections? Is it 2.1, 2.2, etc? I took a tip from other reviews and went to bestbuy and got what I want. It was more expensive, but my time is a premium to me. All I wanted was order. Good luck finding it here. More Info about this DVD

Andromeda - Season 1 Collection DVD

Based on an idea by Gene Roddenberry, Andromeda confidently wears its debt to Star Trek on its sleeve, recalling the best sci-fi of Roddenberry's heyday. The two-part premiere "Under the Night" and "An Affirming Flame" make for a terrific introduction to the lead character, Captain Dylan Hunt, played by Kevin (ex-Hercules) Sorbo. He's a sympathetically flawed idealist in command of the Andromeda Ascendant, a massive starship of the now-disbanded Systems Commonwealth. The fall of civilization has meant that although she ought to be a relic she remains the zenith of technological advancement.

In the series opener we see Captain Hunt in battle against 10,000 enemy ships, winning a bout of fisticuffs with a close friend turned enemy traitor, wrestling with the... More Info about this DVD

Andromeda Season 3 Collection 2 DVD

This ia great DVD loved the interview with Kevin and the bloopers/outakes with Lisa, as well as all the other extras. Looking forward to seeeing the next DVD. I have collected Andromeda since it first came out on DVD and will continue to do so. Andromeda is so refreshing. The actors especially Kevin are great, as are the writers. The worlds they take us into are so believable and for an hour you get lost in their adventures. Andromeda is a must for any DVD collection. More Info about this DVD
